I'm a regular reader from the Agoracom days, but a first time poster. Also a long-time holder of MNKD. Interesting event occurred this past Tuesday in the medical office I manage: a nurse patient (the practice has nothing to do with diabetes) came in saying he was considering taking a job with Lilly as a sales trainer for a new diabetes product that Lilly would begin distributing. The nurse patient knows nothing of my interest in MNKD. I pressed for details whereupon the patient revealed that Lilly was apparently hiring nurses across the country to train its sales people in a new product. The patient showed me the email from Lilly. So... why would Lilly need to train its existing diabetes sales force? Also, Lilly has no new diabetes product in the US that I'm aware of (they do in Europe but that won't be available here for quite some time) so what is coming? The nurse patient is currently a home health nurse whose patient base is comprised overwhelmingly of diabetics. Hmmmmmmm...
It may be nothing, but I hard time believing this is mere coincidence.

So hope it is not Lilly... Only a buyout of Afrezza for a lot of $ would be good maybe but as far as the rest Lilly has, in my opinion, an exceptional knack for not doing things very well from a scientific perspective. MNKD management also seems to be rightfully disinclined from partnering with anyone with a significant conflict in the prandial insulin space.

mrhaigs,
Why are you jumping to conclusions? The OP seems to just be posting some benign speculation.

This is the second version of this story I have heard. The first one was about a sales rep who apologizes to her Doctor Customer saying she will no longer be representing her line to him any long because she has been assigned to a new "superior" diabetes medicine which she is not allow to talk about.

Interesting! and what the courts would call "Hear Say". Stories like this are believable when the story is announced. Given this second parallel story makes me more skeptical of both. Alfred and Management are tight so too would be anyone trusted with a very limited bit of inside information. True or not, my fortune cookie said that I would be a very lucky man within the next 2 months. I'm banking on that! best to you

I'm not sure where I read it but as someone else posted , what I did read referred to a previous partnership the company made & it did not bode well , if anyone else saw this also I'd love to reread , I recall it stating why Eli Lilly would be a horrible choice for Mannkind & it seemed to give valid reasons why , if it was actually factual , I tried to locate it but I read it sometime last week & don't even recall where I saw it .. & the other mention I think someone was referring to was a supposed cardiologist on Yahoo who claimed his GSK Pharma rep stopped in to tell him she was leaving to go work in the Diabetes sector & when prompted all she said was the company couldn't tell her the drug she'd be representing bc it had yet to be FDA approved . He seemed decent on yahoo but I always wonder why are they there & not here instead ... Its my work weekend so my holiday fun is over ./

The job description should add, "unlike a certain former President, you must be willing to inhale."

Lynn, I'm pretty sure the bad partnership you are referring to was Amylin for their diabetes drug byetta.

Btw, I can vouch for Billy TC he is the real deal and not one to spread rumors for rumors sake... Whether Lilly is involvers with Mannkind and/or would make a good partner is for others to know or decide but as for his story if he says its true then take it to the bank...

For what it is worth, Eli Lilly has the 2nd best selling rapid-acting insulin drug, Humalog, with $2.6B annual sales. However, Humalog lost patent protection in 2013. It will not be too surprising Lilly is looking for a new rapid-acting insulin drug to replace its losing revenue at Humalog.

It may well turn out that Lilly is a partner or one of several.
However, how close must you be in finalizing a deal if you are hiring staff for the product?
