I would personally rather suffer a while longer for a more positive result than sell out now for a short term gain that will no where come close to making me whole on my original investment. Just my personal opinion... Hate to say it, mannmade, but right now I'd sell Afrezza for half a billion in a heartbeat. I wouldn't be made whole either, but a half is better than an eighth!

Thanks Kite and now for another version of “Imagine Calmness...”. Think of lying in bed until you want to get up, then making a leisurely breakfast all the while with an ocean view and the sounds of the waves soothing you as you begin your weekday from your beach house... my vision from holding Mnkd five years from now..: And, if we're lucky, we all will be able to get some really good virtual reality gear in five years!!
As always, I admire your optimistic viewpoint, mannmade, it is something I lost sometime during the 80's, I think!

I'm already there. I'll need another "Imagine Calmness..." picture.

Selling Afrezza now would be like quitting a 26-mile marathon after enduring the pain of 25 miles. Al said he wouldn't sell until the Afrezza value is recognized and only then at a minimum valuation of 10x times the investment. Mike C, after the Sanofi fiasco, also confirmed the corporate decision to go it alone until such time that the Afrezza value is recognized. The life changing value of Afrezza is slowly but surely finally moving forward within the diabetic community and it should gain strength with the increasing popularity of the new CGMs. Fun thread but ridiculous idea. Hopefully the value of Afrezza and TS will finally reach the investment community later this year.

I would like to see Mannkind be successful selling Afrezza, and I am hopeful that success will come with the current ad campaign. That said, if sales don't pick up in the short term, it's time to put Afrezza in someone else's hands. I would not advocate for giving it away. A deal that involved royalties would be nice in the event it does turn into the blockbuster drug we all expect it to. This is the post I most agree with. I have every hope we’re going to hit it out of the park but with that being said if the company decides to go another direction then I support it. We are limited if we do not get a partner, and the next few months will tell the story.

More than a year ago, after declaring the company would go it alone, he also said a U.S. partner was desired in order to have a significantly larger sales force and impact. While this obviously hasn't happened, my guess is that it hasn't happened because potential partners have been asking too much in return. Mike knows if sales and revenue do pick up as expected then the negotiations will be on a much more equitable playing field. IMO this will happen at some point, hopefully this year.

Think you are confusing Afrezza with mannkind sales efforts. Afrezza is even better than expected which is hardly a disappointment in my view. The sales efforts could be more strategic, such as where is the updated web site and the digital campaign to compliment the tv ads. Big miss imho. ....and our CEO comes from a marketing background. And some want to nominate him as CEO of the year???

Some of what is happening is proof of concept. Recall the final time Mannkind tried and got FDA approval, the trial didn't showcase what Afrezza's real capabilities were (dose 15 min before starting meal?) and likely, per Al, the marching orders were get Afreza approved and figure it out after. Trial data and lack of managed care presence have hurt sales, no revelation there. Mike is trying to get enough data points to make a pitch for some type of deal and his wheelhouse so to speak is in the sales, marketing, contracting and reimbursement arena which is our good fortune as Mike can talk about this as a subject matter expert. My assumption is Kendal working behind the scenes taking about Afrezza with his network while trying to pull information from all the studies that help demonstrate what Afrezza's real world capabilities are. Too bad we are not in our current position with the year being 2021 vs 2019 because by then, CGMs will be in broad use and the only data that will matter is what is coming up on the CGMs.

The enduring problem is that owning Afrezza costs the company at least $60 million a year to fund marketing, keep an underutilized plant running, and to maintain the sales force. At this point the question is not whether Afrezza is a good use of $60 million, but whether that is the best use of $60 million, especially if existing shareholders have to keep getting diluted to fund the shortfall. You can start a lot of pipeline projects and run a small pilot production cell for $60 million a year. If there were a billion dollars sitting on the balance sheet MNKD could try to do both, but since that is not the situation some hard choices are required.

Since we are funded through 2019 according to Mike, I feel we need to give them all of 2019 to see what happens with Afrezza sales. It will be a struggle, but I will be patient until 4Q, to see what all of their efforts do for Afrezza sales.

Agree Boca, I think this is the most fair approach under the recent and current “snapshot” of the companies current position.

Do we know how many shares are controlled by the Mann family? Not talking about shares in the foundation.
