In the past week I have met a RN whose specialty is obese people and those with addictions, a medical administrator from the VA in West Los Angeles and a senior dietician from UCLA, all of whom work with diabetics and none of whom knew anything about Afrezza. Now this is both sad and at the same time hopeful. You would think they would know about the only inhalable insulin on the market given each is on the edge or directly inside the diabetes conversation given their postions and affiliations.
However, it is also an opportunity. I realized that while it is important to educate endos, pcp's and the insurance companies as well as pwd's Mnkd may be missing an opportunity to reach advocates who speak for and deal with diabetics on a regular basis that may not be so reluctant to recommned Afrezza as an option. Now I know they speak with Nurse Educators etc who are directly involved wth diabetes but I wonder how far their outreach and channel marketing messaging goes.

As my VA doc told me ... he can only prescribe the medications that are on the list that the government gives him. This was a couple years ago that we had the talk about Afrezza ... hopefully things will be changing soon.

I seem to recall that Mannkind signed a contract a couple of years ago to provide Afrezza to the VA. So the VA still won't prescribe it ??

Afrezza is now covered by the VA, but Prior Authorization is required.

Maybe they are ... my diabetes is under control so I don't use any medication. Will have to see my doc at the end of summer and will see if they are prescribing. I think my VA doc is going to retire soon. Guess I'll have to train a new doc into his/her new environment.

I am a Vet and am just beginning to see the affect Trump's policies are having in a positive way, but it is slowwwww in the implementation. I wish someone could get a message thru to him about how his intentions and stated objectives are great, the implementation is taking a long time to get down to the operating personnel.

It's the VA Mission Act that you find beneficial? That's really an extension/expansion of privatization that started before Trump. Always interesting to get opinions from those directly impacted by policies. At least from what conversations I've had with people it seems the experience with VA health care can be very geographically specific. As in, really good some places and a nightmare in others.
