I have seen many posts relating the APS and Afrezza, I was wondering which APS system Mannkind is testing. I have done a little research and found the only fully automated APS was manufactured by J&J, and I think it was tested with Afrezza. Does anybody have any insight on this, I think the J&J APS is scheduled for approval 2015, any ideas on which APS Mannkind is testing would be appreciated. Thanks. RSR

Rick, I believe this is all we know about MannKind and the artificial pancreas system. Researchers at UC Santa Barbara have developed a uniquely flexible Artificial Pancreas System platform that enables investigators to use a variety of blood glucose sensors and insulin delivery devices in their research. "This is the only system that allows fully automated closed-loop clinical trials, and its design allows it to be expanded as new devices and drugs become available," said Dr. Eyal Dassau, lead scientist for UC Santa Barbara's Artificial Pancreas System. "The use of AFREZZA in conjunction with the UCSB / Sansum Artificial Pancreas System will help in blunting the meal response and improving glycemic control." www.news.mannkindcorp.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=147953&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1462268&highlight=www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGgGjtM5ipg

Typical of Al Mann to keep a tight lid on his Medallion Therapeutics infusion pump. It's curious that he only just started his newest company and yet the article about MT states they've been developing their pump for ten years. I wonder if it's the same pump and Al has rights to it thru a donation to UC.

I don't know, I spent a good part of the afternoon watching YouTube videos on the various types of APS's, I guess the one funded at USCSB by the JDRF is a Samsung system. I did see that the J&J APS did use Afrezza in their studies though. Who knows, Afrezza may become the industry standard mealtime insulin, it looks to me like many have used it in different studies. Have a great evening. RSR

This could be what the partnership with MDT / SNY is about? We might not get a piece of it if Medallion has no ties to MNKD? Looks to be independant to me? www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140305005467/en/Alfred-Mann-Foundation-Scientific-Research-Creates-Medical

AMF - The Alfred Mann Foundation started up Medallion, according to the article.
Majority stock owner for MannKind Corp is The Mann Group LLC with 89,750,000 shares. I know they are separate legal entities because the 10-Q states that in the event of his death, all of Al's shares go to AMF, where his three children are officers.
