Had a doctors appointment today with an endocrinologist (not related to diabetes) so I asked him about Afrezza. He knew of the recent FDA approval and was very interested in the speed of action - said ultra rapid is needed. He said they (ENDO GROUP) would like to see more information on the long term effects of protein in the lungs and hoped the company (either MNKD or SANOFI) would supply data soon. He also knew about previous inhaled product X and mentioned the clunky delivery device - I told him Afrezza was whistle sized. He sounded very interested but cautious on long term effects...

You should have schooled him by correcting him that the protein doesn't stay in the lungs at all.

I went with my mom to her endo appointment this morning. She's not diabetic, but at the end of the visit I asked him if he had heard of Afrezza. He said he had...considered it "fast acting." I then asked him if he intended to prescribe it: "Maybe." He said folks would still need a basal...and that he had prescribed Exubera when it came out. I mentioned that some folks are talking about it replacing oral meds, for less strain on the organs, and he seemed to agree.
Since that was the first time I had met him, I figured that was as far as I could go. But I appreciated the opportunity to plant seeds. He practices in a city of 36,000, surrounded by a large semi-rural population. I think he would be one of the opinion leaders in my community.

Yeah, I was a tad tongue tied as he's the Endo Doc and I'm a Mechanical Engineer! I did briefly explain the PK profile and fast in-out benefit that he agreed was needed. I also tried to explain the molecular changes via hexamer-monomer insulin attached to Technoshpere but forgot the PH disolving aspect... He asked if I worked there! It actually feels like it with this investement!
