Couple things to consider in calculating usage and cost. I'm on Lantus (pens) taken once a day. I started on 20 units and have increased to 30. They recommend a new needle every usage. 2 unit waste to get air out of needle. A pen lasts about a week. 5 pens are about $285. With the patent expiring, I'm not sure of generic cost.

It may be a placeholder but...The Prescription Benefit Administrator, Free For All, lists Afrezza pricing at www.rxcut.com/en/PharmacySearch.htmlPrices listed for brand medicatins are usually 10 - 15% less than retail pharmacy cash price. Again, I cannot vouch for price accuracy. Another Prescription Benefit Administrator, Discount Drug Network, is now showing Afrezza pricing - www.discountdrugnetwork.com/Be careful, when you first run Afrezza with a zip code it returns Novolin prices. There is a dropdown box that allows you to specify POWDER which will return Afrezza prices. As with my original post, I cannot vouch for price accuracy. Stocking must be imminent, because this PBA was not listing Afrezza yesterday.

I priced novolog pens today thru cvs Caremark. One months supply was a $60 copay with total costs between me and my company totaling $397 per month or $4700 per year. Out of pocket would be $720 per year.

Just called my local Walgreens (west coast) and they quoted $297.00 but do not have any in stock yet. I asked her when she thinks the Afrezza will be available and she said that most drugs that shows up in the system will be available within a few weeks...Not sure what few means

It is listed with CVS in Sherman Oaks CA (suburb of LA) in both 4U and 8U for about $300.00. Pharmacist thought they would have in 3 to 4 weeks but admitted it was a guess...

It seems that costs are pretty close across the board from what I have read on here and YMB. But as typical, Insurance covered amount is all over the board. There really is no answer to this question, but what will people be willing to spend out of pocket to try "A", especially the Pre- Diabetics. I saw the same thing with Harvoni which cost about 90K, but I only had to pay $100.00 per month, but I saw people having to pay as much as 20%. Not being Diabetic, any thoughts what people will pay out of pocket for "A". Lets face it, that is the bottom line cost. I was blessed with good insurance, and quite honestly would have paid what I had to as it was getting life threatening, but with other options out there (although inferior) I find this to be the Billion $ question.

I'd bet Most insurances will cover it out of the gate, even if just tier 3. My guess is cost to consumer with poor insurance it would be in the $100/mo range. Average insurance maybe $60-75 a month and great insurance $30-45 a month. But since Obama is your prez it'll most likely be available that anyone that wants it since that's how things work now.

Been a reader for a while and thought I'll register to post. Great discussion.
I think one shouldn't be too much concerned about Afrezza avaialble to only Tier2 or 3 for many insurance plans. The new innovations of last decades like RAA, Novopen etc were not all straight added to Tier 1. The new drugs were much more expensive than existing ones (plain insulin compared to RAA, RAA compared to pen). The convenience, efficacy, and superiority eventually won over and most if not all plans added them to Tier 1.
The same would be the case for Afrezza. The insurance plans themselves are competing against each other. They'll soon realize that savings from compliancy will be more than added costs of Afrezza.

It would seem that enough pricing information has been released to initiate the blogger commentary on the pricing issue. Expecting the first effort any time now.
