That's the way to do it! You could go the whole 9 yards though and implant the pump ( www.healthline.com/diabetesmine/implantable-insulin-pumps). I know someone who has one of these. Interestingly the pump was made by MiniMed and you have to wonder how much it influenced Al Mann. The insulin passes almost directly into the blood stream as it drips into the peritoneal cavity. When he made it I can imagine Al thinking, "Well that works, but I need a better route". what insulin are they using in slow drip pump into the peritoneal? (the peritoneal reminds me of dialysis. )
Because the absorption is so good they don't need an analog. They use concentrated RHI although it may be modified in some way to keep it stable at body head for long periods. The down side is that the pump is hard to service. You refill it quarterly by injecting into a port on the pump (a doctor does that since they need ultrasound, maybe x-ray, to guide the needle). These pumps were never approved in the US, although there was a trial, so if you wanted one you had to go to Europe get it implanted and regularly serviced. I don't think it is not great, but for the person I know it was very literally a life saver. Their parents had been told there was nothing that could be done for their child in the US and that they were going to die. Happily they found out about implanted pumps and that saved their child.

I just want to know. so tell me again, why a pump isn't putting RHI into a implantable venous access system? (assume infection ruled out) a system with a feed back loop, a smart pump.

Rick - we will see "That has to be the biggest f-up in the history of Pharma" They plunked down $250M to play will Google. Two years later what are they going to have in Onduo? I am liking Tim Cook's watch and with Dachis can he get it done? If he can hook the One Drop to the watch, Dexcom and Libre and sell afrezza direct through Amazon whats Ondou's angle?
Maybe they are going after the corporate wellness programs? It very well may be that Ondou which was the brain child of Stefan Schwarz maybe the follow-on f-up, all part of Stefan's afrezza master plan to quote "we need to take a different direction with the PCPs".

You could do it that way. The gain in speed is minimal though as absorption through the peritoneal cavity is almost immediate. As it stands they simply make a pocket on the wall to secure the pump and they don't need access to anything. The pump is designed to run for years (I think typically they last around five years before needing to be removed) so I suspect they are not comfortable with the idea of an access to the venous system for that long - I am not a nurse so you have a better idea than I do. One of the problems is sediment build up from the insulin so this is flushed periodically. I doubt it would cause problems it was injected into the bloodstream but they might want to avoid that anyway.

Abbott are producing a CGM version of the Libre, they have a signed a contract with a pump manufacturer, Tandem, to provide it. I guess it will be a mix of the Navigator and Libre technology. Tandem had been using Dexcom.

My mind was literally blown back when Sanofi sandbagged mnkd. Now, with every new user, including the 16 year old t1 who has never experienced a Mealtime Injection, I realize just how big of a "mess up", (to keep it clean) it was. Sanofi owned 65% of the profits of Afrezza and they f'd it up !! Unbelievable to say the least. ππππππππππππ Afrezza, Made in America πΊπΈ

Regarding Sanofi...the Army (BARDA) "paused" their collaboration with Sanofi for the research and development of a Zika virus vaccine, essentiallyβindefinitely. Researchers are slow to understand why certain vaccines suck, notably the intranasal live attenuated flu vaccine, FluMist. It's ineffective and quite frankly a crappy vaccine. No excuse for trying to pump children full of questionable formulations developed by a company that cannot even maintain CGMP (they have received an FDA Warning Letter for botched manufacturing of FluMist). Children need safe and effective vaccines, not crap vaccines that don't work (and manufactured by a company that doesn't care).Β So far I know of only one company capable of developing and manufacturing safe therapeutics.Β And I don't see a point in a middle man (Amazon) as long as MannKind is the one that manufactures the product.Β Β Sanofi would come out of a "wet dream" dry as a bone π ππππππππ How they botched owning 65% of Afrezza for next to nothing literally says it all. That has to be the biggest f-up in the history of Pharma. I hope they sink to the bottom. πΊπΈ I've been seriously considering taking a long position in PUTS on SNY, not because I think it'll work, just because I HATE them so F-ing much.

It very well may be that Ondou which was the brain child of Stefan Schwarz maybe the follow-on f-up, all part of Stefan's afrezza master plan to quote "we need to take a different direction with the PCPs". Can u explain u r statement---hook one drop to the watch? One drop is just a glorified BG Meter but the crux of it is the app and social sharing of the data with a modern touch that uses beautiful UI . It already has a Apple Watch app. It's not even a CGM. If u get readings 2 hrs apart and your sugar peaked in between, you still lose a data point. And sell Afrezza through Amazon? It still requires prescriptions and insurance to pay for it unless u think it's gonna be out logistics? Any local pharmacy can order Afrezza for next day. So I don't see advantage of Amazon here. If Afrezza is priced appropriately they don't need Amazon. Look at One drop. They could afford to price cheaper and are selling. Amazon is just a selling platform for them as many people buy strips on Amazon from many vendors. Listing one drop there is advantageous. Can you state what's the case with Afrezza and Amazon?
