On a normal day, 4 times, on a bad day (yesterday) 11 times, on an idle day (this all seems like a lot of effort) 2 times. I have enough strip, and since it's a new year I just changed the needle in my lancet I actually do track my data on my phone, or rather my meter has bluetooth and does it for me. The only innovation I liked with a meter was having it calculate doses automatically. This made me enter carbs and tracked my insulin. Then the insurance removed those strips from their formulary.... (did I say I hate insurers?) I find looking after my levels easy enough, but annoying in that I don't want to do it. However that is the product of decades of experience and it very easy to forget how hard I found it all when I started. I have a huge amount of sympathy for people going through the titration learning curve with Afrezza because it is a far broader learning experience than just the insulin part and in the early days it is hard working out what is the insulin, what is illness, and what is you. Whoops. To be clear - it's hard with all insulin, I am not picking on Afrezza. According to Al Mann it is much easier with afrezza. While Al has always been years ahead of his time he has not been wrong yet so I am going with what Al said starting at 34M mark www.youtube.com/watch?v=muBuxTqxmQo This biggest issue is not taking enough and needing a second dose. Evidence would seem to suggest, and VDex's comments would support, that using Afrezza as with any other insulin is non-trivial. You need the second dose because Afrezza is fast in / fast out. After two hours it's gone and there is no insulin left to cover remaining any remaining carbs you are still digesting. The dose size is immaterial, it's how fast it clears.

The kids do not need a second dose if they take a 12 unit with a pizza. If they take a eight or four unit they do.

I remember when the 12s were not available they had to take a second one with a large meal. Normally 4 for snacks 8 for meals and 12 large meals. Sometimes follow up sometimes not needed. Also could be different taking it right before the meal or half way into it. Tom told me yesterday, “ truth is it’s the simplest thing in the world to dose, and with the CGM’s this will be what the “Younger generation” does, they won’t have anything to do with the pump it’s too cumbersome, or needles!” Kids Vape it’s what they do:-) it will be the most natural thing in the world for them to take insulin through an inhaler. He said adults make it all too complicated:-)

I think afrezza got a bad rap early on about dosing being difficult because there was such a fear of hypos and the really really bad idea of using the word "units" with the cartridges. They would have been much better off calling them small, medium and large. This resulted in PWDs taking too little and nearly always needing to second dose to get the amazing control.
For anyone not using a basal, its really hard getting a hypo and as VDex documented in their paper even when not eating it works with the liver like a healthy pancreas and the liver prevents the low.
