Drug Price Lists Pharmacies and drugstores, as well as laboratories, distributors and importers, cannot charge for medicines above CMED's allowance. The list of maximum permitted prices for the sale of medicines is available for consultation by consumers and is updated monthly. In addition to the list published on Anvisa's website, consumers can consult magazines specialized in the publication of drug prices, which must be made available by pharmacies and drugstores. These magazines should not be confused with the advertising material of the establishment and the prices contained therein may be lower than those on the CMED list, as they reflect discounts granted by the industry, but never higher. Whether consulting CMED's list or a specialist magazine, if the consumer realizes that the price of a drug in an establishment is higher than allowed, you can refer CMED.

Afrezza pricing finally announced in Brazil. The official prices in Brazilian Reals (US dollars in parentheses) are:
8U X 90 70.63 ($17.14) 12U X 90 1 05.95 ($25.71) 4U X 60, 8U X 30 47.09 ($11.43) 4U X 30, 8U X 60 58.86 ($14.29) 8U X 60, 12U X 30 82.41 ($20.00) 4U X 90, 8U X 90 105.95 ($25.71) These are “factory prices” and represent the maximum amount Biomm can charge any pharmacy for the product. MNKD is paid from the factory price.
The maximum price that can be charged to consumers depends on the state in which they live since the controlled prices include all taxes. However, for reference the 12U X 90 pack has a maximum consumer price of 209.11 ($50.77) in the states with the highest tax rate, so about double the factory price. The difference between the “factory price” and the “maximum consumer price” goes to sales taxes, import duty on foreign medicines, and includes a retail markup of approximately 32% for the pharmacy.
For reference, GoodRx shows a lowest price for the 12U x 90 kit of $1,020 at Costco, so Brazil prices are about 2.5% of US prices for the consumer.

50.77 / 1020 = ?
so Brazil prices are about 5% of US prices for the consumer

This doesn't sound right. In this case if I were diabetic I would just go to Brazil every 3 months to get a scrip filled all expenses paid by Afrezza savings. This could start a whole new black market for Afrezza.

This could start a whole new black market for Afrezza. I was aware that drug tourism is big in Amsterdam, but who’d of thought a whole new industry could be born from shopping for inexpensive Afrezza. Maybe MC’s plan is to start offering charter trips to Brazil. He could paint Afrezza on the side of the plane, too!

Does anyone have a guess if we are selling at “cost” to Brazil? I’m all for increasing volume and awareness world wide, but I hope we are not selling at below manufacturing cost.

I can find round trip flights to Rio for $600. Plus why do it every 3 months when you can probably buy a year's supply per trip? For that matter will it be possible to order by mail?

Translated from the Anvisa site this morning:
Afrezza is an insulin for rapid action inhalation, indicated to improve glycemic control in adult patients with diabetes mellitus.
Usage limitations:
• Afrezza is not a long-term insulin substitute. Afrezza should be used in combination with long-term insulin in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
• Afrezza is not recommended for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
• The safety and efficacy of Afrezza in patients who smoke have not been established. The use of Afrezza is not recommended in patients who smoke or have recently stopped smoking
More information
Afrezza is the first rapidly acting inhalationinsulin to be registered in Brazil and had its registration granted in accordance with Resolution RDC No. 55 of December 16, 2010. The product was registered on behalf of biomm s.A.
In healthy individuals, blood glucose is controlled by insulin secretion by the pancreas. Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus have impaired ability to produce endogenous insulin, while in type 2, they have resistance to insulin action, which makes endogenous insulin insufficient to exert glycemic control. As a result, their blood glucose concentrations after a meal are affected, constituting hyperglycemic conditions. The aim of treating diabetes mellitus is to reduce patients' hyperglycemia, usually through oral antidiabetics and/or injectable insulin.
Afrezza is composed of recombinant human insulin, which due to its formulation, can be administered inhaled, through an inhaler device, representing a more convenient route of administration for the patient.
Afrezza supplements the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with a basal insulin or oral antidiabetics, therefore, in certain treatments, it is possible that it is still necessary to administer other types of insulin subcutaneously.

MC and others at Mannkind have significant global distribution experience. There's no reason whatsoever for any suggestion this won't be a good deal and opportunity for Afrezza. Granted we don't yet know the level of significance.
