In 2016, Afrezza marketing had to be completely revamped and restarted from scratch, which the CCO turned CEO managed while the company teetered deeply in debt and on the brink of bankruptcy. I would argue that Earl Grey’s charts of Afrezza revenues disprove your remark that Dr. Castagna’s efforts “fell flat”. Anything but. They’ve stalled during COVID which even that gets mischaracterized. “Covid happened”? Take a look at Peppy’s latest posts on COVID. It didn’t happen. It is HAPPENING. It’s the worst it’s ever been in terms of new cases and hospitalizations. What isn’t the worst is lockdowns and deaths, but that does not mean that there aren’t disruptions, particularly for health care. Again, nothing you wrote there changes mango’s point which I agree with. Commercialization from 2016 until Covid (four years) fell short of expectations, given the superiority of Afrezza, and we would’ve been better off with a partner. Hindsight is 20/20, unfortunately we don’t get a do-over for those years, but a partner going forward would be beneficial. We aren’t a sales company. I wasn’t arguing with Mango’s point which you also mischaracterize. His point was “consider partnering with Dexcom or similar BP company to launch this trial” where “this trial” refers to a Large Scale Investigation. Mango may have meant, but did not say, “outsource marketing to somebody other than Mannkind”. You don’t have to twist Mango’s words to say that. It’s clear you feel that way. Say it for yourself. I disagree with your view. I agree with LetItRide on this. That said, I am not against a marketing partner, per se, but what Dr. Castagna has said, and I agree with, is a deal with an international marketing partner. It cannot be easy to negotiate international deals from Thousand Oaks or Danbury, and COVID (again) continues to hamper international travel. You try to make it sound like Mannkind and Dr. Castagna are incompetent. The fact that we’re still able to post about a company whose prospects have materially improved and are still here to be discussed is proof you’re wrong.

Thanks sports. It good to know MannKind acknowledges its dramatic failure to commercialize Afrezza, rather than claiming they actually did well under the circumstances. That means there is hope we will take a different/better approach going forward.

I would not expect a partner like Sanofi who would take on trials, label changes, etc., in addition to sales.
I would expect MNKD to continue to perform/fund clinical trials but find someone to take over the sales activities. That’s the approach of SENS, working with Ascencia to handle all the marketing and sales activities while SENS continues with R&D and clinical trials.

They’ll go with the trials for sure. While still marketing Afrezza. New ideas… You can talk international partner but you’re not gonna get one until we can scale here. IMO ..just sounds good to say it.

That means there is hope we will take a different/better approach going forward. I crown thee King of Mischaracterization! Where did Sports say Mannkind “acknowledges its dramatic failiure”? For that matter, where and when did Mannkind acknowledge “dramatic failure”? Good Lord. I think maybe you are purposefully using hyperbole and mischaracterization as bait to get me to call you out for how you twist people’s words. Please stop. I don’t want to argue with you. I just want you to stop needlessly bashing the management of the company you say you are invested in. It isn’t like there haven’t been things you could legitimately complain about, but the turn around that began with the dramatic improvement in revenue from Afrezza isn’t one of them. And not to put Sports on the spot, but why should we believe she has special insight to what Mannkind thinks about their efforts to market Afrezza? This isn’t a slam against Sports. She may feel certain they are disappointed with their efforts, and it may even be true, but that isn’t the same as having inside information, or having read a public statement to that effect.

That’s the approach of SENS, working with Ascencia to handle all the marketing and sales activities while SENS continues with R&D and clinical trials. That is an interesting idea. There are trade-offs because of outsourcing sales. Your salesforce becomes one-step removed from direct accountability to the management of the company that is dependent on the salesforce performance. And, establishing the relationship, and re-establishing a new different relationship if the first effort fails cost time and money and can be very disruptive. I’m not against what you’re suggesting, but there is some work to strike the right approach. Interesting idea though. I also invested in SENS, so I like learning that they’re trying to be innovative. Let’s hope it works out!

prc…..Because they told Bill and I. They acknowledge they have tried everything without the intended results. We agree on that. They also said they are not giving up! New ideas are being formed. They have a new head of sales that gets it …and sees the problems that Bill has brought up many times about the churning. Keeping the people on the drug once they get on it is Key!

Thank you Sports for the insight. Even so, I assume they did not say, “we acknowledge our dramatic failure”, or words to that effect. But, I can easily believe, “tried everything without the intended results”. We saw the needle stay firmly fixed after a significant effort with DTC and the flying hamburgers. I would like to blame the TV commercial, but it won an award and it’s about like other drug ads, so I think it’s back to what we’ve been told over and over, and which started this thread by Mango. Large scale trials (and improved insurance coverage) are the key hurdles to overcome, and to hold Mannkind accountable, these are the two things they haven’t really tried but it has been because they didn’t have the money. Well, Dr. Castagna and team managed a very good refinance, right before COVID hit. So the money is there, but COVID (again) is negatively impacting the ability to conduct business.

David Thompson also acknowledged the failure. It’s been an epic failure. We all know that. This is why it’s been so obviously important to listen to the patients. Their problems and their concerns about dosing! And Mannkind is listening.
Covid is dropping in most states it will no longer be a problem. By the end of February it should be business as usual, although it already is in most places.

Well I’m not sad anymore :-) but for goodness sake‘s stop questioning my credibility!

We haven’t stopped talking. I told you guys that too. And I agree with prc that new studies are key.
Mike told me himself that the shareholders pushed for the commercial and that it didn’t work. I felt bad because I was one of the ones pounding the table for it. But I don’t blame them at all for trying everything.
And they don’t want to leave Westlake so can we put that rumor to bed:-)

There’s no need to argue about Afrezza sales ..Mannkind is well aware they have dramatically failed at it. But that is the important point, they know it. Now they can take steps to rectify it. I believe they will. Reposting for prcgorman. I realize the slightest and gentlest criticism of MNKD management upsets you greatly, but please read more carefully. We all just want the company to do better.

This was public information. You can look it up. And I believe this line of questioning is inappropriate and I have to get back to work.
