FTA: "Castagna lost his father to diabetes at an early age, and is diagnosed with the disease himself, which he manages through diet and exercise as well as a prescribed regimen of Afrezza."

HUGE NEWS (from the Danbury paper) -
It is the second largest pharmaceutical employer locally after Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, which has its U.S. headquarters in Ridgefield just over the Danbury line. Boehringer Ingelheim sells Jardiance to fight type 2 diabetes and Spiriva for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.

Over the years, there have been several times when MC referred to checking his blood sugar or playing with a CGM or other glucose monitor.

I don’t believe Mike has diabetes, he was checking his blood sugar playing with a CGM with Anthony at lunch…and I think Anthony’s blood sugar level was lower than Mike’s which was at the time 5.3 and Anthony’s was 5.1 and he was on Afrezza. ( Anthony’s no longer with the company.) so unless things changed drastically🤷🏼♀️

FTA: "Castagna lost his father to diabetes at an early age, and is diagnosed with the disease himself, which he manages through diet and exercise as well as a prescribed regimen of Afrezza." So this was a direct quote from the article which I can’t read because it cuts me off? If so geez…. get it together Mike😟

The article is dated July 3. It says, "For the first time this week, MannKind Corp. began shipping its “Dreamboat” inhalers to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension".
If that's true, it appears that sales to which royalties apply will be reported beginning with Q3 earnings call. I would guess that "launch" happened in June, that is, promotion and samples, but maybe not any sales. Comment anyone?

“What can I do to help MannKind?” Castagna recalls Rothblatt asking him in 2018, after the topic of a collaboration was broached. “(Rothblatt) is a visionary.” Well, doesn't seem like there's going to be any immediate rush for a partnership with the Liquidia folks. The quote seems to have sealed the fate of any hope for that relationship.

So this was a direct quote from the article which I can’t read because it cuts me off? If so geez…. get it together Mike😟 From the article “I was pre-diabetic, and I knew it wasn’t a matter of if I would get diabetes — it was a matter of when.” About 4 years ago Mike said he was "prediabetic" which is a term I still don't fully understand - is 125 mg/dl a magic number? Either your pancreas is making enough insulin for you body's needs or it is not. OK - so now Mike says he is "diabetic" and using afrezza. It would be nice to see his AGP. Maybe beyondtype2.org and diatribe can do some articles on him showing AGPs with and without afrezza and Mike's standard of care. So Mike as a T2 is using afrezza but the last we heard from Mike on the T2 market is its "on ice". What am I missing here? Why isn't he taking metformin and a GLP1 like everyone else? Why isn't he following the ADA's SoC? Happy 4th - maybe afrezza will bring us some fireworks in 2022 yet!

I wish Joslin still had the research which they did about 10 years ago available online. For some reason they scrubbed the site. I love lines like this "Insulin resistance appears to be caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors." OK - so how does that explain all the new T2s after Covid? This line I give credit to Ralph DeFronzo "Over time, cells become more resistant, and the body can't keep up with insulin production" Ralph has to explani why the answer was not giving the PWD insulin but rather metformin or GLP1. According to Ralph the body was making enough insulin and just not using it correctly. What we do know now from CGMs is the first thing the "prediabetic" loses is post prandial glucose control. We also know if you give them the afrezza early and often you will have a fighting chance of stopping progression.

A lot of people gained weight during Covid because the gyms were closed, everybody sat around in their sweatpants and didn’t do anything, there was no reason to buy new clothes yada yada yada. Myself included.. I had to start jogging, but I lost muscle because I don’t have a home gym. Took me eight months to get my strength back.

We also know if you give them the afrezza early and often you will have a fighting chance of stopping progression. Thats what I thought too. But it doesn’t square with this quote from Mike: “I was pre-diabetic, and I knew it wasn’t a matter of if I would get diabetes — it was a matter of when.”
