All I know how to do is buy and sell stock and have averaged down really well as to have not been hurt to badly. I just dont understand Options and the advantage of trading options when you can simply trade by buying and selling the stock itself. I have tried to educate myself but really don't understand how it works. Sorry this is probably not the forum for this question.

Covered calls have been an easy and effective way to lower the average purchase price over the years. Agree with castlerockchris about the $5.50 calls, that is strange behavior but you never know with MNKD…

JE if you’re interested in options I recommend reading some of the readily available online primers on it. Probably want to focus on buying and/or selling calls, and selling puts (but not buying them), to see if any of those strategies appeal to you and fit your current investment goals. JMO. These tools can be a way to leverage your investment for more explosive gains, or to simply lower your average price point. Also they carry various risks. If you don’t like those risks then good old fashioned buying/selling shares is the way to go!

Cretin's advice is spot on. Here's a novice perspective. The most important thing to recognize is you do not own shares with options. You own the option to purchase or sell shares at a future date be it puts or calls. If you forecast wrong and are not "in the money" or green on or before the option’s expiration date, you lose your total investment whereas owning stocks outright provides time to recover from a wrong forecast. On the plus side, options are less expensive than buying shares allowing you to control a lot more shares with the same amount of investment. The price of options vary according to the time frame of the expiration date. IMO, options have a higher risk than owning shares and some believe the price can be manipulated if a corrupt market wants to see a high volume of options expire worthless on a specific expiration date. This is a discussion for another time. You can lower your risk with options by hedging or covering just in case your forecast is wrong. Basically, this means purchasing or controlling "opposite" shares in case your prime forecast was wrong. This makes options less risky by preventing the big loss but this comes with an extra associated cost that dilutes the upside potential. Another way of saying this is no guts, no glory I would enjoy learning from others with more knowledge.
