The numbers definitely need a grain of salt because FINRA is the finance industry association and they're probably about as trustworthy as most politicians. My assumption is the numbers are far worse. Anyway, there is a not very well highlighted link on the fintel.io website that will take you to a FINRA website to learn the meanings of those numbers they report. Glad you agree those numbers need a grain of salt. What doesn't make sense is your assumption that "the numbers are far worse." Seems equally likely the numbers are actually better. What probably makes most sense is to not place much reliance on them either way. Assumptions and guessing are the bane of wise investing. Dude, mocking. gaslighting, and talking down to people is not very persuasive. I am not sorry if my views and facts I share on shorting of MNKD are not popular with you and others.
The FINRA financial industry association is an example of the fox watching the chicken coop (kind of like former financial industry executives being in the SEC). They have an incentive to protect their own self-interests so I assume that if shorting, especially predatory naked shorting has a bad reputation, they'll do what they can to dissuade onlookers that there is anything to be concerned about. Kind of like a lot of the posts on this board.
There is way too much evidence of illegal shorting practices to pretend it doesn't happen and there isn't any reason to believe MNKD is somehow immune, and a persistent uncommonly high short interest is a real, factual, reason to be concerned MNKD investors might also be victims. Today we got good news that gives us hope MNKD is performing well on fundamentals and so while FINRA data will probably confirm tomorrow that today's volume included a high percentage of short selling, MNKD share price will improve around 3% to $4.63 on >2M trades. But what would it have done if the short selling wasn't so intense? And was all of it on the up and up? I don't know, but I'm ok not liking it regardless.

This was you two days ago on a day with nothing of material... I didn't bash shorts. It was an observation and I admitted I was guessing. But please check out my posts referring to MNKD short interest on the FINTEL.IO website which reports FINRA short volume information. My guess was accurate. It was a fact. So what? www.finra.org/rules-guidance/notices/information-notice-051019 FINRA is aware that some market participants, including investors, may occasionally perceive the percentage of short sale volume to be unusually high or inconsistent with reported short interest data. This perception may cause market participants to draw inaccurate conclusions about the level or nature of short selling activity in the relevant security.

Respectfully prcgorman, will word this as gently as possible, it is not a gaslighting or “I told you so” post.
Going back many years the scapegoating of shorts has existed here, perpetually claiming our share price is unfairly low due to predatory shorts. Others have countered that the focus should rightfully be on WHY our stock has been heavily shorted.
About five years ago we inked the UTHR deal. Short blamers claimed it should’ve lifted our share price higher than it did. Same thing when Tyvaso DPI was approved, again nefarious shorts were blamed. The unpopular counter was that “it is priced in” which explained why our share price increase was less explosive.
Since that approval, our share price is still in penny stock territory, again fueling the short blamers theories. But I submit that an unemotional view of the facts is more productive. Certain things encourage shorts to remain:
Dilution. Massively increasing authorized shares. Insider selling rather than buying shares. These things have happened.
Certain things would give shorts a reason to exit: Blowing up Afrezza sales. Fixing the Afrezza label. Inking more partnership deals. These things were all expected by those who claimed our share price should be much higher. But they have not happened.
Share price is a function of real events, shorting can’t keep a good stock down forever. If we make good things happen (not just speculate on what might happen), shorts will seek greener pastures. Even better, more buyers will materialize. These things go hand in hand.

Mike selling before UTHR ER for tax purposes was a bone head move unless he don't think sp is not going up.

Sometimes the truth hurts. Welcome to the board. Exactly what truth are you talking about? This board is about Mannkind Corp. They make the world's best insulin because it works on time. Inhaled insulin 4 unit, working in 30 mins, out of the blood and system in 90 mins. Subq insulin takes 2 hours to work and 5 hours to get out of the body. So exactly, what truth are you referring to?

Mike selling before UTHR ER for tax purposes was a bone head move unless he don't think sp is not going up. That is not a choice in his case. He is trading on a 10b5-1 plan.

Mike selling before UTHR ER for tax purposes was a bone head move unless he don't think sp is not going up. Perhaps not. We don’t know his reason for selling, but I’m sure it had to do with taxation. Also, you don’t know what options he has coming up that he has to fund. Sometimes these things are scheduled and he can’t change it. Because of confidentialities rules, he can’t tell us what is going on, but you would have to think that eventually there’s going to be a deal made with United therapeutics to buy into Mannkind. It will happen SHORTLY!

"Penny stocks, as defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, are securities issued by companies that have a market cap of less than $250 million or $300 million." (from Investopedia) We are a $1.2B market cap company. We're in the top half by market cap within the IBB. Hardly penny stock territory. The share price is single digits, but that is primarily about the trajectory of share issuance that was needed to get us to a $1.2B market cap.

And our enterprise value is $1.4B. Since conversion of debt/warrants should be factored in already, MNKD is really already a company being valued at $1.4B.

Another pointless opinion Aged, don't feed the trolls! Not even worth responding to... Of course he had to sell. He got shares and had to sell some to pay taxes, end of story, and as you correctly stated, had no choice.

Mike selling before UTHR ER for tax purposes was a bone head move unless he don't think sp is not going up. It was pre-scheduled and not a huge enough amount to move the needle much. (The 300,000 shares sold is a different story.) kc thank you for pointing out the penny stock definition, glad that is the one quibble with my post and I trust your source. Probably would’ve been better worded as “cheap stock.” Though I did look up penny stock on Investopedia which says, “In the past, penny stocks were considered any stocks that traded for less than one dollar per share. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has modified the definition to include all shares trading below five dollars.” Still your source is probably better, but at least there is a difference of opinion out there. Regardless, the point is most of us several years ago felt MNKD should’ve been way higher than $5, but in hindsight it appears to have been priced appropriately.
