I think Tyvaso DPI might be one, but it depends on your definition of “commercial advertising”. If you literally mean television commercials, I do expect Tyvaso DPI to continue to be successful and become more successful without television advertising. I would some day like to see television commercials for Afrezza, but it might be singular in that I’m not sure I’ve ever seen any TV commercials for any other mealtime insulin, or basal insulin for that matter.

What great drug succeeded (modern day ) without commercial advertising.. in a big way ? Advertising drugs is illegal in most countries outside the US so pick any drug where the FDA is being even slower than usual... Metformin has been widely used outside the US since the early 1970s even if it took the FDA another 20 years to approve it in the US. This is not atypical.

Produced under license by Bristol-Myers Squibb, Glucophage was the first branded formulation of metformin to be marketed in the U.S., beginning on 3 March 1995. Generic formulations are available in several countries, and metformin is believed to have become the world's most widely prescribed antidiabetic medication. I bet it was a better investment in 1995

Sadly, companies that produce metformin might not be a bad investment now. Would an inhalable version of metformin be valuable?

P-man I was referring to 1995 when “marketing began “ 😀 To be clear on that one - marketing began in the US in 1995, but in the rest of the world since at least 1958 (UK launch). It has been the standard of care for Type 2 outside the US since the early 1970s. The GLP-1 drugs are the same - released in Europe in 2011, in the US in 2015.

FDA constrains what you can say/claim. It’s been years since I researched the FDA rules on Direct To Consumer (DTC) advertising but I’ll just say the FDA is very involved, and picky. If there were no constraints, marketing Afrezza would be easy. But there are lots of constraints, on DTC as well as what representatives and literature can say. It’s not a slam dunk.

Look at what’s being sold out there/ drugs / its all in the disclaimers … And ours would be mild in comparison..can’t let that stop us .. A good experienced add agency would work thur using what’s allowed in A creative way ..semantics…

Agree lenny. It’s easy to simply say “the FDA makes it too difficult” but the successful companies don’t let that stop them. Afrezza has so much going for it, a good marketing campaign is most definitely possible (and should’ve already happened).

Even if they have to give up a piece of The PIE to do it.
