Usually a stock will go up if the market thinks there will be good news...since MNKD is dropping it certainly feels like the MNKD CC will disappoint. For those who have been paying attention...the SP has paused above the $X.00 price ($8, then $7, $6...) and then the shorts hit it when the opportune time comes. After the CC, IF it disappoints again, will be the trigger for the SP to go below $4.

You can short the heck out of a stock but shorting doesn't mean it will go down. Selling actual shares do. The short position in MNKD isn't the reason why the stock has gone down. Those selling it have and that's why it's going down. Shorting a stock is selling actual shares of that stock. I don't understand what you're saying. Yes you are correct but the broker is selling them and the shorter is borrowing them. It's why securities lending aka stockloan is such a lucrative business. But just because a stock is shorted doesn't mean the stock price will go down. I think there are other factors involved beyond the shorters that is causing the stock to drop.

I think there are other factors involved beyond the shorters that is causing the stock to drop. Please help me to understand. Mechanically, the price is dropping because at recent current prices, there have been more sellers than buyers. I think we can agree on those mechanics.
So you must be addressing the reasons sellers have for selling. I agree that there are many reasons why both longs and shorts might choose to sell. But mechanically, there is no question that shorts are helping to drop the price because they are an integral part of the overall disparity between buyers and sellers.
What are the other factors you are thinking of?
Thanks.

Although I am not naive, and do not really believe that anything substantial will come of tomorrow's CC, it makes one wonder why they would switch to a morning call. I think the only two explanations are that: 1) Someone from Sanofi (HQ in France) will be joining the call (Most likely, in my opinion) or 2) Good news is announced and they wanted for the market to be able to react right away.
If they had news, or no news that would make stock go down, then a after hours release would be more likely so investors could not dump their shares right afterwards.
Just my $0.02

Just my $0.02 My opinion is hedge fund manipulation and trading strategies. Forgot to add that the company is giving much ammo to sell too based on doing and saying nothing to help itself. Today's CNBC article is just one example. Notice how CNBC did try to contact MNKD but didn't try to get a counter opinion from any hedge fund or anyone for that matter that is long MNKD.

When do they release the ER? Nothing on their website yet. The press release did not have a time.

I agree. If they were posting results AND holding a CC after 5 on a Friday, yeah - no good news. CC before the market opens? Feels like something good in the report or other positive news. Probably no really good reason - just logistics. Allow for SNY corporate to dial in from France, possibly dancing around the US jobs report. But don't think its material to the cc and business. Would love to be pleasantly surprised, of course.

Remember that the partnership agreement included a loan facility of up to $175 million to cover the initial expenses of the rollout, so they were not expecting to be profitable right out of the gate. I think the naysayers realize this and are capitalizing on it.

Hmmm...I wonder if Olivier might be there. It would be pretty classy for Sanofi's new CEO to show up as a demonstration of his commitment to Afrezza.
The Wall Street pundits are heading home from the office. We should get that earnings release before 8pm, I think.
