From: The Street More AF s**t
ByAdam FeuersteinFollow | 11/20/15 - 10:36 AM EST
Finally, there's been a development in the MannKind (MNKD) saga which bulls and bears agree is for the best: Chief Executive Officer Hakan Edstrom resigned.
Edstrom was a terribly ineffective CEO. Even handcuffed with the deeply flawed Afrezza inhaled insulin device, Edstrom still came across as a guy with no imagination. Never once did he articulate a viable strategy for lifting MannKind out of its doldrums.
And so, Edstrom is gone.
His replacement: Al Mann, the company's founder. Mann is 90. Granted, Mann is only taking the CEO job on an interim basis, but that doesn't diminish how desperate this executive transition makes MannKind look.
It's almost cruel to see Mann being forced back into the CEO role at MannKind, but the company's near-total collapse demands it.
The Afrezza commercial launch is terrible and not getting any better. MannKind's marketing partner Sanofi (SNY - Get Report) is signaling to everyone that they've run out of patience and are nearing a decision to exit. MannKind's balance sheet remains in poor shape even with the recent, small infusion of new money. The window of opportunity to develop the Technosphere technology underlying Afrezza into new products has closed.
Mann will be more entertaining than Edstrom on investor conference calls, but he won't be any more effective.
MannKind, like its founder, is in its twilight.

That's just wrong! Adum Fartstain has gone to far again and again. Dr. Mann, please prove this little man wrong.

Boy, it's tough to say what a lousy drug Afrezza is time and again (from a commercial viability perspective, at least), and then say the CEO is inept for not making it a success! But Adam can do it all! A wonderful man.

Despicable. ..The Street should have to answer for the article's title alone.

I'll take any bet that Al Mann makes AF eat his words. AF is a small small man.

How wonderful. AF writes a real hate piece and he is not able to move the market one iota. If he can't keep the SP down under $2.50/share for expiration tonight, will his cronnies slap his knuckles?

Actually it looks like he's moved us up about 2.5%, it must be some sort of twisted reverse psychology he's using or his magic has simply worn off.

I couldn't let that insulting title go and sent a note to The Street asking them to immediately address it.

All systems go. (I'll tell you something that irritates me. I seem to be hearing from the endocrine community, "You have injectable insulin, that is good enough." My reply is, "You are wrong. Injectable insulin is a piece of the puzzle, but not good enough.) (If you are over 65 and on medicare, forget about it.)

"Good enough" seems to be the go-to in western medicine, it may also be code for "Price efficient enough" as Afrezza IS priced higher than injectable which makes sense to us but doesn't fit the prevailing optics [arguably the REAL barrier we face] whereby Afrezza is only "non-inferior". I am CAUTIOUSLY encouraged (note which word is capitalized) by script numbers this week, if we started seeing organic growth we could all breathe a sigh of relief, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Keep fighting the good fight Peppy!

I'll take any bet that Al Mann makes AF eat his words. AF is a small small man. Many of us shareholders have been waiting many years for this. Hasn't happened now and don't think it ever will. But what I don't understand is why so many have such hate for the guy. He's not the one who has put Mannkind in the position they are now. He only reports on it with his twist of dislike for the company.
