@liane, if he is the ceo there is nothing more important than something like today's CC call. Just calling it like I see it as I always have and always will regardless of who likes or dislikes it. Besides, what ceo doens't show up for the first day of work as the new ceo or can't read from a paper for 5 minutes into a phone? After reflection, you are correct about the responsibility of the CEO. How could he not be available? And if he choose to not take the job, it was Al Mann's responsibility to speak. Very cowardly. davinci, We all do not know why he wasn't there to read out the script. But it was surely an opportunity missed to show strong leadership, speak with a firm voice and even have 1 or 2 short sentences beyond the script to show that he is there to fight and win.

I think we are in the same exact boat as Nektar now. It never recovered from that shock and neither will Mannkind. There won't probably be a bankruptcy but there might be a recovery all the way up to 1$ in a few years. IMO, 500M is the peak market cap from here barring any more TS developments.

Do you really think there won't be any TS developments?

I'm just saying there's any number of business related reasons he could not be on the call. Being out of country is no excuse to miss a call, at least not in the modern world with cells and skype and so forth. And if he was working a deal, how impressed would the other side be that the mnkd ceo is bailing on an important call on his first day on the job?

I think it is a right decision for Desisto not to participate today's call. Jan'16th JPM conference call is a much better time for him to do sufficient preparation. Now we know MNKD only got the news yesterday. I hope Desisto indeed got the hint prior to his acceptance of current new position. I also hope current event help him to get stronger hand to deal with Al first. To be honest, I do believe Hakan resigned rather be fired.

Question: Is Andrew Purcell allowed to be in the Al Mann fan club still?

I can't imagine that Duane didn't consider the possibility that SNY would pull the plug. Matt and Al had to suspect it was coming. Why did Hakan stay on for a transition period? What transition?

But Desisto's hiring announcement (dec 23rd) didn't include any mention of Sanofi, or even working with their partner as i recall. It's not a stretch to look back at the sequence of events and pick early November when it became "understood" by both parties the partnership was dead imo

DaVinci, you are reading that correctly. The only comment that made me pause otherwise was Matt stating that they were excited about having Duane on board and for him "coming out" next week for JPM. It would be very, very bad for him to make that statement if Duane hadn't already re-confirmed his commitment. But nothing would surprise me anymore with Matt and his conference call prep (ala his prior definitive statements about the whole tranche being taken for the TASE offering). Very amateurish as usual.

Now that you mention it, I did post some comments about how I felt that both Al Mann and Duane DeSisto mentioning the new CEO's role would to improve commercial development of Afrezza. The fact that they mentioned Afrezza without any mention of Sanofi seemed to be significant to me at the time.

Its right in front of us, am i paranoid? Or is this the clearest sign yet (other than stock tanking last 2 months) of a certain divorce. Super clear in hindsight, but pretty clear in the moment too Though honestly, i thought it was Mannkind that would/should terminate

btw I'm almost positive everyone knew or Desistos attorneys would have likely asked for additional options in the event Sanofi cuts ties imo

To have his first public exposure in such a negative situation and no time to prepare meaningful comments other than cheerleading would be a bad start. While MNKD could not have definitive info of the deal drop for legal reasons, I am sure mgt knew things were going to go badly. I look forward to a message from Duane in the next week to ten days to announce something meaningful. For those referring to being locked in until July, I think that is the required latest date all can end. SNY is still on the hook for expenses until the divorce is finalized. That could theoretically be much sooner. I am sure Duane is in talks with SNY to be freed asap.
