If this is a way of selling pot it puts my investment in a whole different light. A large part of this investment for me was the knowledge that my money was being used to benefit man kind. I also think it tarnish's Al's legacy and his devotion to using his mind to benefit those in need. Then again if it brings the PPS north of $10 I'll get over it.

When you see the effect drugs like Marinol have on improving cancer patient therapies, you will change your tune very quickly about a tarnished legacy.

Guys, there are other plant extracts... I would not assume marijuana is in the picture at this point...
Don't forget...
Opium: opiates used in hospitals are plant extracts. Morphine, codeine.. all come from opium. And many common opioids used in medicine, such as hydromorphone, are chemically altered versions of those plant derivatives. It's a very large spectrum when we are talking about plants.
Then there's Rauwolfia that is in medicines such as Serpalan/Resperine. It treats high blood pressure which, according to webMD, is used in preventing strokes/heart attacks and kidney problems. Rauwolfia affects the nerve impulses (for example in order to decrease norepinephrine) to relieve the heart and blood vessels to lower blood pressure and slow down the heart rate.
Then there's also quinine...
And periwinkle, which is used in cancer treatments..
Curare is also another plant extract which is used in pharma (I believe Eli Lilly uses it?) I believe as a muscle relaxant, sometimes has been used as a supplement (but not replacement) to anesthetics, but curare does not work orally.
I think this patent just covers a very large spectrum, and is a very intelligent way of protecting the IP for a variety of options in plant-derived medicinal compounds.
By the way, many, if not most, of these compounds work with receptors in the nervous system.
Cheers guys and hope this was helpful.

Curare was originally formulated for injection. South American natives dipped their arrow heads and blowgun dart tips in the stuff. Respiratory failure through muscle paralysis was the expected outcome. If it healed anyone, I guess they (the natives) would have to list that as an adverse side effect, perhaps in a black box warning.

I am going on record. RLS = Google Life Sciences. Google is involved with the Glucose monitoring system. Just makes sense to me. Just guessing!

Patten - So you think RLS is going to be the "R" in Alphabet? Personally, I am still not sure as yet about any of it, but Matt sure seems to be acting with a lot of confidence on how things will come together.

As I pointed out in another thread, Al had said that he made a provision in his will that his foundation would make sure that his companies had "enough money." I find it strange that there's so much worry that MannKind will "run out of money."

I would love it if deep pockets (and real innovation) are behind RLS. And the relationship will yield blockbuster-like results.
My guess is that its not a direct project of Google, etc.
With the Bacon 6-degrees, sure one of these names could be connected in some form or another.
But I don't think this is some massive, great secret that will immediately change everyone's fortunes - including MNKD.
I think its exactly how its been presented. And some income will come in eventually.
Hope I'm wrong!

I join in this round with my 2 cents: A bunch of entrepreneurs and seasoned executive from corporate pharma that have some own money and some money from venture capital who know how to start a dedicated care center business. I assume that some in this small group are former friends or business partners of Al Mann and you know that he never passed a chance to sell his ideas. So they followed MNKD and Afrezza for some time and identified a nice business opportunity, a way to show how SNY f..up and to help make Al Mann's dream come true. A bit like 'Space Cowboys' Edit: Why not Google: a) something would have leaked before. It is not big& cool enough to do all the things required to keep it secret. b) VDex timing was heavily influenced by SNY lack of sales / lack of marketing. If sales would have ramped up nicely there would be no Vdex now. 1/2 year is too short for Google to react if it is not core-business. Why not Dexcom: An established producer of devices getting involved into the channels, cutting out the middlemen? Okay, I do not know the distribution channels but there will be some and the profits should be nice as it is medical devices. In general manufacturers are very careful not to compete with their B2B customers.

Curare is used for respiratory relaxation but generally for serious surgeries like open heart surgery. Of course it wouldn't make sense in TS. I'm merely suggesting plants have a very wide scope. =)
