bioexec25 - A Ghostbusters reference; that was one of my favorite movies from back in the day.
Been a longtime follower of this board and the board from before (I forgot what it was called right now), and very much enjoy the information and opinions that everyone has. I have just stayed quiet because I am fascinated by the technology and am always hoping for ways patients cope with their problems in an easier fashion.

The NOLs are not material in an M&A and SNY isn't going to make the milestone payments because they exited the agreement at a break.
The story was given to Reuters to drum up interest as the bankers will have been hawking Mannkind around the usual suspects and this will flush out anyone they missed. If the Deerfield meeting was today then the timing is definitely significant, it maybe that Deerfield leaning on the management for more progress towards a sale.

Selling the company at these depressed levels could be quite frightening. I wonder what the minimum we could get per share would be? What do you all think the maximum would be too? Sadly the minimum might only be $4/5 PPS with the maximum (if we're really damn lucky, LOL not happening) from multiple bids capped between $10-15. This will be sold for no more than $4-5 guaranteed people. Realizing that MannKind could have changed the wireless health monitoring landscape several years out is brutal in comparison to Al aloof Mann accepting only $5.00 PPS right now. This sucks. Oh well at least I break even.

We see article after article pharma exploring inhalable medications? We have seen the formulations pharma and biopharma are working on. Mannkind patents are meaningful. There will be bids is my take.
A public notice that Al Mann 39% holder willing to entertain bids.

The fact this story is out and out by Reuters is not by mistake. The company is up for sale. The question now is whether or not it will get a reasonable sales price that will get the nod from Al. This story was out on the Day the SNY termination was announced it was on the Dow Jones Wire service.
DOW JONES & COMPANY, INC. 10:05 AM ET 1/5/2016 Symbol Last Price Change MNKD 1.05down -0.4 (-27.59%) SNY 42.23down +0.03 (+0.07%) QUOTES AS OF 11:05:27 AM ET 01/05/2016 MannKind Corp. (MNKD) on Tuesday announced the termination of its licensing pact with Sanofi-Aventis in the U.S. for the development and sale of its inhaled diabetes medicine Afrezza and signaled that it might look to sell the drug.
Shares of the company tumbled 28% in early trading. Over the past three months, shares have dropped 67%, including Tuesday's decline.
MannKind (MNKD) said that it and Sanofi(SNY) would begin transition talks to return Afrezza to MannKind(MNKD) over the next three to six months, with the termination effective no later than July 4. As a result of squashed deal, MannKind(MNKD) said it is reviewing its strategic options for Afrezza. The evaluation of options typically include a full or partial sale.
The company struck the marketing deal with French drug company Sanofi(SNY) in August 2014. In its most recent quarterly earnings call with analysts and investors, then-Chief Executive Hakan Edstrom said MannKind(MNKD) was "disappointed with the growth of Afrezza sales during the first nine months of the year," pointing to insurance reimbursement issues and slow uptake. Mr. Edstrom stepped down as CEO in November.

You are confusing two separate things. One is the author of the Jan 5th article making the assumption that one strategic option usually discussed is a sale of the company and today which is the anonymous confirmation that the company is actually pursuing that option. So not exactly the same thing as you are misreading the first quote.

I'd be thrilled. I will break even (almost) and finally be done with this roller coaster ride. Anything above that is just gravy. I'm done expecting this thing to really take off like I thought it would. Really sad considering I actually USE Afrezza!

Let's see...my profit on $5 a share would enable me to buy...15,600 cans of cat food!

Anyone worried that this rumor is nothing more than an attempt to run up the stock again for another bear raid?

Tough to honestly say. Those of us still in this with a ton of shares have some serious decisions to consider. Will this pop and fall back? How much time will we have if it does do that? Does any company want to inherit the legal claims? And Afrezza's checkered past and difficult to get quite right dosing? Does a short squeeze EVER materialize even back to the 2's or 3's? Is holding hoping for a buyout more risky than selling it somewhere along the way in the next month or 2? Difficult questions for me to answer as i'm not smart enough to know the answers to any of these...and the folks that are smart enough probably sold out at much higher levels than we find ourselves now.

Rumor or not, they'll no doubt work it- if not with this, with FUD surrounding it.
Though I must say, if not a rumor, shorting now would be more extra seriously silly.
I'm not whole until about $8.50. I did average down about double my core, but way way waaaaay too early.

With just releasing the licensing and collaboration agreement, I doubt this has much behind it.
