None of us knows what insurance companies are paying for Afrezza. Castegna has said they are working diligently on the pre-auth issue. Doing what? Negotiating price, primarily, I expect. But they may have other avenues.

I have made this crazy proposal before. Why not shoot for a free publicity angle in this anti-drug company environment while also harboring good will for senior and poor diabetics? Mannkind could announce that they are offering Afrezza to all Medicare and Medicaid recipients for free for one year. Only need the prescription and no insurance company PA or step therapy or other blockade. Just a few thousand takers with decent responses and no lung issues might give a few thousand doctors the idea that there is something there with Afrezza. I am sure that feels desperate to Mannkind but it would definitely get news.

If we hit that number, it might be cheaper and quicker than gettin 500 prescriptions through our sales force :-)
