Why not hire nurse practitioner to prescribe afrezza at events like jdrf walk? Is that even legal? physicians need histories. Charts. Physicians are responsible to know everything about a patient. Nurse practitioners, same. They write the histories, labs, plan. Physicians sign/cosign their practitioners orders. Pep

Then can they get a referral to a np or doctor. Or even better an appointment. Something one up from the spirometry test.

Why not hire nurse practitioner to prescribe afrezza at events like jdrf walk? Is that even legal? While it depends on the circumstances, the answer is generally no. A prescribing physician or nurse cannot have an economic incentive to prescribe a particular drug or medical device over others, nor can they have an economic incentive to prescribe more than is general accepted as a normal dose.

I supppose if they wanted too but would be limited by FDA label as to what they could say or advertise.

Why not hire nurse practitioner to prescribe afrezza at events like jdrf walk? Is that even legal? I think if MNKD did this they would open themselves up to a whole legal can of worms... Our job is to develop, manufacture, promote.. educate and market our drugs and delivery system as efficiently and economically as possible considering our position. That is why VDEX is such a great idea.. they can prescribe Afrezza without so many label constraints. Also, PAs or docs who prescribe have to carry insurance for that purpose. I think we are doing all of the right things and in a responsible way.

Mannkind and vdex must be out of their minds. Mannkind has nurse practitioners (and physician assistants)listed on the afrezza doctor list. Vdex hired a np.

A nurse practitioner can prescribe, but as with physicians, not in the absence of a history and physical. Even with that, the decision making must include what treatment is appropriate for the patient - which may or may not include Afrezza.
