I have been out having a lot of discussions with both PWD and Endos and PCP's as well as NP's... Many have heard of AFREZZA but still are not properly educated as witness the two examples I describe below:
1. Endo in Southern California, formerly with a major University Diabetes Center now in private practice. He has 1 patient on AFREZZA who uses it only for corrections of his highs. Endo expressed concern over potential lung issues as he heard there was a decrease in function associated with AFREZZA and he was concerned about relative effectiveness when I told him pwd reported getting lifetime best Hba1c's many with non-diabetic Hba1c's without severe lows. He told me he was extremely skeptical and did not believe me. In fact he said that if I had told him they were achieving Hba1c's in the mid 6's he might of believed me more but telling him some were getting in the 5's to him made him not trust my credibility.
To his credit he was curious and so we are meeting at the end of November to discuss. However, it took me several conversations to achieve this due to his schedule.
2. I am meeting with another prominent endo who "has issues" with AFREZZA and am only getting the meeting, as he told me, "because I know two of his close personal friends who asked him to meet with me."
These guys are not bad doctors who don't care about their patients they are just extremely busy and you can only imagine all the outside noise they have to filter everyday on a whole lot of issues other than AFREZZA...
Does MannKind need to be patient focused? Yes of course... However, I also think they need to find some prominent endos who are well regarded in the national/global medical community to start publishing in Jama etc... (Let me call them the Alpha Endos... Get them on board and the pack will follow...) That would be the single most cost effective and positive means in my opinion to get the train up to speed... Then others will want to get on...
The real issues are that doctors have doubts about the anecdotal/real world benefits of AFREZZA that are being reported as real and it will take time for doctors to absorb this and change their thought process about prescribing AFREZZA...
And secondly, when they do understand the benefits are real, they will need to be properly educated on titration to achieve the same results with their patients as are being tweeted about by the early adopters who took the time to learn. Consider it a two step education objective...
Do we have the time it will take? I think we do but it may get even more painful for stkholders... So get used to it...

So adding to your mantras might be a new one for stockholders... "thank you sir, may I have another".

I am not as deeply invested as others perhaps, but as a father of type 1 son, my motivation is more about supporting Afrezza through its early days than reaping rewards in proportion to the risks. MNKD needs a savior more than it needs any of us investors along for the ride. It needs wise sheparding through the regulatory, study and proofing phases. It needs more to be protected from Wall street rather than paraded naked and in chains before the bloodthirsty hordes seeking vicarious thrills and cheap profits at the Coliseum of bread and circuses that has, for better or as I suspect much worse, become our health care apparatus.

Thanks so much for the very accurate post. This is how it is... and what Ive been struggling with. Its just a matter of fact that this is going to take a lot of time .. From what Ive read it takes time for any new drug to penetrate the market.. and Afrezza changes our standard of care on top of it. These facts have been mentioned now for a while, and I believe that Mike C and Matt are both aware of it.
I have no idea where people get the idea that Matt is a "liar" .... I don't recall that he has ever lied... I see him as a sincere man who cared about Al Mann and his vision...He is also working 2 jobs for the company which saves us money..
I'm looking at what has been accomplished in the past 6 months... its quite amazing .. I think everyone is doing all they can.. what more can we expect? So what Mannmade had said above is true... may as well get used to it because this is how it is... either we come up with cash.. or we go BK (not good for common shareholders) ..
I don't know whos "fault" it is.... if I were to lay the blame on anyone I would lay it on SNY ... but what good does that do now.. ?? I also believe that MNKD didn't know how difficult it would be to market Afrezza in the beginning... they were a research and development company and not into the marketing side of things.. they put their faith in SNY .. the label issues also held us back ..
Ive lost a lot... that of which I cant afford to lose right now due to other things going on in my life that I didn't see coming .. my friends and family keep telling me to sell... however at this price there isn't much left to lose and I believe in Afrezza 100% .. and I believe in Matt and Mike .. so I will hold onto the dream .. I also want Afrezza for my dad so he can live a better life.. and I want other PWDs to have a better life as well...
When I got into this it was just another investment... it morphed into something else.. so here we are.. It is what it is...

Today I had to sell almost 1/2 my position. I didn't want to, but I have to put what little I can get into a stock I know will go up 25% in the next two weeks. I still have a large position so if MNKD really takes off I'll still make a good amount of money. But if there's a reverse split it won't be as devastating. It will take me a long time to recoup what I lost today, but with luck I will. I am a believer in the drug but the cash position of the company is going to cause drastic measures which I can't afford to ride out.

No I don't, as many know from my previous posts... I have been involved as a shareholder since 2009. I am by formal education a lawyer. I was a FCC lawyer for a major Broadcast Network. I started a very successful advertising, marketing and promotions company with another lawyer friend that did work for many major brands including Pepsi, General Motors, Verizon, and several Pharma Products including the launch of a prescription drug. The agency was acquired after 15 years or so by one of our clients. I then became an SVP of integrated sales, marketing & production for a major television local media division. I was also one of the first marketers to successfully engage brands in what is now called branded content integration at a major deal level.
I also have a brother who has been a T1 since the age of 8. Growing up with him was not easy for a variety of reasons... Let's just say it gave me a very up close and personal experience of what PWD go thru everyday of their life, not just the physical but the emotional as well... For my brother who is now getting dialysis two to three times a week while he awaits a kidney/pancreas transplant and who has been having his eyes cauterized for several years now at the age of 59, his life has been dramatically different than mine.
I am actually on 500 mg of metformin as a pre-diabetic although recently have been able to get my Hba1c down to 5.4 so am trying to convince my doctor to take me off of it.
I have done plenty of due diligence and research on AFREZZA and other current diabetic therapies. There is more but am not at liberty to discuss for both personal and professional reasons.
I post my missives and am answering your question because I believe in the possiblity of what AFREZZA can do to change the world for diabetics and with that, medicine as well, as Al Mann did. I had a chance to get to know him a bit and he was indeed a great Man. I am now at an age in life where I want to give back even more... Yes it would be nice if my investment paid off, but more importantly I like a good fight and this is certainly a fight on many fronts and its one that I believe I am on the right side of...
So I consider myself to be an activist investor... where my investment is secondary to my involvement with Mannkind as there are plenty of other places to spend my time...
Hope this answers your question...

Thanks Mannmade. We need advocates of your caliber. I'm sure the question was asked what you do for a living was a valid question because the thought also crossed my mind. I wish your brother well. God speed Kenny

mannmade how did the people , you detailed Afrezza take it? were they enthusiastic about the possibilities and outcomes if Afrezza was properly titrated? were they willing to start people on Afrezza who were non compliant and high A1c's?
