Mike's comment about the importance of a larger sales team was probably a year ago. IMO, as the past year has evolved and Dr. Kendall has come on board, management has recognized that several things need to happen to reach the lofty goals everyone wants. This includes SOC, approval for youth, improved insurance coverage, proof of market acceptance, etc. This doesn't change the need for a larger sales force than Mannkind alone can afford but it does change the timing. My point is that knowing Mike said this means it likely remains an important objective. Because of this, my "guess" is that Mike is having ongoing discussions with a particular BP about this, but they have obviously not yet made the decision to make this leap. They could be waiting on milestones to trigger such a move. Considering what happened with Sanofi, this would be wise. I believe a much improved partnership is coming and will likely be in effect sometime in 2019. Anytime would be a great time for such news. ‘gearing up for 2019’. 👍🏻 And so they will be, golf, until it's time to gear up for 2020!

When was this? Recently (last conference call)? Or over a year ago? I'm not doubting he said it, but he has said a number of things at various different times in the past. Some of which would speak against having a U.S. partner. "but he (Mike) has said a number of things at various different times in the past." Like all the rest of us? Indeed. Which is why I think what he said a year (or more) ago may no longer be gospel when it comes to his current strategy / thinking. A lot of water under the bridge since then.

I sure hope they are having discussion with someone or a lot more than one. Everyday I wait for the big announcement and for awhile we were on a roll and now nothing. It sure would be a great time for some news.
The big question is who is the right fit. Sanofi clearly saw afrezza as a direct threat to Lantus and understood if you took the afrezza you would never need the Lantus.
Aged said- "a pharma with no presence in the diabetes market would not be interested. Someone with non-insulin diabetes drugs would be a better fit. Realistically the SOC isn't changing any time soon so if there is the potential to retain patients when they move to bolus insulin then I think there could be interest."
The rub is if they took the afrezza before the non-insulin drug, they would never need the non-insulin drug. Its like Sanofi in reverse. At some point the doctors would figure out treating to failure is idiotic and skip the non-insulin drug.
If someone like an Onduo was serious about connected care and really wanted to dominate the market they would be a much better fit. Then again Abbott or Bayer would be interesting along with techs like Apple or Amazon.
Jeff Daches talked about Amazon in 2017 and so far nothing and no word on his T2 study. Hopefully Dr. Kendall can make good on some SOC updates and deliver since he said this is the easiest job he has ever had. I am ready for some great news.

Didn't he say it was " one" of his easiest jobs? Somebody on this board said he listened to the recording five times and that Kendall definitely said " one" of the easiest, which makes much more sense than "the easiest."

Dr Kendall neglected to mention how tough his other jobs had been.

If afrezza was available before the orals started hitting the T2 market there would be no orals. Treating to failure makes no sense when afrezza removes the 2 major issues for treating T2s early with insulin; severe hypos; and needles. Add on the fact it may stop the progression or better and not using it seems idiotic.
Here hoping Dr. Kendall delivers on "one" of the easiest jobs he has ever had and soon.

The need for a larger sales force was true at the time and remains true today. What's changed is improved knowledge of the other things that are needed to go along with a larger sales force. That seems to be what he and Dr. K are working on. It's also important Mannkind not negotiate a partnership from a position of weakness. The company's position is improving. The next partnership will likely occur with much better timing, i.e. 2019, and be very good for the company. The sooner the better.

Perhaps we’ll see what Kendall has been doing when the 2019 Standard of Care for Diabetes is released?

I was at my doctors office, waiting in the lobby and nobody else was there. I saw a woman approach the desk and state that she was from Astra-Zeneca. After she has made her appointments to see the doctors in January 2019 and scheduled their big lunch for the same meeting, I got her attention before she walked out of the office. I asked if she had heard of Afrezza? I was actually surprised when she not only told me she heard about Afrezza but, that she heard 'great things' about Afrezza from a GF who is a rep for MNKD. She said she works in the Diabetes Division of AZN and that she and her GF attended a diabetes presentation in Boca and one of the doctors in the audience addressed the panel and started speaking about Afrezza and the miracles she is having with her patients in Boca. I was very pleasantly surprised by hearing this from a rep from another company. Just something I want to pass along.

It has just got to catch fire one of these days. Too many good things coming together. "Miracles she is having with her patients", pretty much says it all!

Isn't that setting yourself up for failure? If he makes a statement like that then he better deliver. If this is so "easy" then if Afrezza doesn't take off, what does that do to Kendall's reputation? Doesn't seem like a very bright statement unless that person isn't concerned about their future. As the Mannkind World turns....

Some people set themselves up for failure. Others have a set and get it done.

A person that comes into a company without a set pay package ... probably ... "isn't concerned about their future"
