I posted this over on Reddit, but thought I would post it here too!
My endo prescribed me Afrezza today! Due to a chronic liver disease, the oral meds just weren't working out for me even tho they reduced me from 10.2 to 5.9 a1c! The hypersensitivity reactions and affects on my liver were too much. Note that I am Type 2
So I went in to a brand new endo prepared to beg for Afrezza, but I didn't have to. He said it was a great fit for me, and that an insulin pump might be an even better fit, but we could try this first for sure to see how it works for me. Basically he was on board from the get go. I was shocked! I kept trying to convince him, but he was already convinced lol. Eventually I just shut my mouth and realized he was cool with it. My main issue is postprandial hyperglycemia bc I do moderate carb intake, rather than low carb, so i think Afrezza is perfect for me.
After my endo, I went to my PCP to get the spirometry done, and according to the nurse I passed. At that point it was close to 4PM which is the time my endo office closed. So I am not sure if they faxed it to him before he left and was able to call in the Rx.
So hopefully tomorrow it will be called in, and I'll have it a day or two after. I know the pharmacies aren't stocking it and have to order from the regional wholesaler, so I can't get it the day it's called in unfortunately.
Feel free to ask questions, request experiments.. whatever. I plan on posting detailed results here and on my twitter! @patoppa

Pcp are supposed to be able to prescribe afrezza but everyone that is on it seems to get it prescribed from their endo. Guess pcp are not comfortable doing it yet.
Who is your insurance carrier and did they have any problems covering afrezza.

My insurance is Optima. They told me it is a Tier 4 drug, so $100 copay. But I am fine with that. Plus I can use the coupon and get it for $30, or something. I think. Will be paying out of pocket a couple months tho bc I haven't met my deductible. I'll pick the better health care plan at work next year

You and spiro makes 2 NRx to add to the list. Congrats.
Not everyone has a continuous glucose monitor nor can afford one. I would think they are fairly uncommon for Type 2 diabetics. How are you planning to chart your results?

Good luck. It would seem you are among the very early T2 adopters and as such can potentially enlighten not only us here, but more importantly those afflicted but hesitant or waiting to try it for one reason or another.
Good health!

Lol, yeah I was. I didn't want to mention Afrezza to her though. I'm glad someone else did. I'm so so f****** tired of ppl saying I'm some paid marketer for Sanofi or interested in investing in Mannkind.
I have a 401k and a Roth IRA, with mutual funds only. Well index funds really bc the ER is lower. But that's it. And that's all I really care about rn.

How are you planning to chart your results? Nope. No CGM here. I'll just be finger pricking and probably plotting some graphs in Excel or something. Haven't thought about it too much just yet, but I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Thanks you for sharing your experience with the board.
If you are willing to post about it, I'd be interested in understanding the Afrezza dosage you take and how far your blood glucose subsequently drops.
We've been getting a lot of great feedback from T1 patients but several prominent writers repeatedly make the point that T2 require much larger doses. Since T2 are the vast majority of the target market for this drug, I'm interested in learning how well this works from an actual T2.
Best of health to you

Good luck DMB! Thanks for sharing. Wishing you good health and hoping to hear more about your experience as one of the very early adopters

But I'm going to start with 8 and see what that does. My doc made my Rx for the 4 unit box. I might be through that thing in 2 weeks lol. With my insurance the 4 unit box is $213, and my copay once i reach the deductible would be $100 since it's Tier 4 drug. However with the Sanofi coupon, my total for tomorrow will be $82, and once I hit my deductible (in 1-2 months) it will be $30.

The 12 units (and eventual 20 units) will be very useful to get a wide range of dosing. Ideally, and eventually, no patient will need to take more then 1 or 2 inhalations. Patients will start off with smaller doses and gradually work their way up to their 'cruising doses'.
