Does anyone know if there are restrictions as to when MannKind can reduce the price of Afrezza? Or is price being used with insurance companies for better coverage?

I have heard conflicting information regarding when MannKind can reduce the price. Does anyone know the definitive answer as when the price can be reduced?

Time is crucial as money will be an issue with too much lag time. Cut the price & lets get rid of the surplus of product in Danbury.

I apologize if it's been mentioned by MannKind, Matt, etc. but i haven't heard anything about product surplus other than message boards. That being said...One would suspect there is a surplus.

SNY lost exclusive rights to market Afrezza when they gave notice. SNY is no longer calling all the shots on marketing. MNKD is free to market Afrezza how they please. I would guess that MNKD will waste no time in talking to the formularies and getting agreements to remove restrictions and get better placement by lowering the price.

So obamayoumama just told us, afrezza could sell at two different price points until april 4th depending on which vendor sells the afrezza?

I think MannKind should announce future pricing now, or as soon as it's decided
New patients will be on the free samples for a while anyway
The sooner we can remove the obstacles the sooner the growth ramps up

I read the contract differently. The black and white says that Sanofi may cancel the contract on 90 days prior notice, which they have done for effect on April 4. Until that time Sanofi must meet all their obligations, but they also keep all their rights under the agreement including the right to set pricing. The following day, April 5, that all changes and Mannkind can do whatever they want with respect to price. In the meantime they could, for example, negotiate a new price to take effect on April 5th so long as they did not prejudice Sanofi's business in any way. At this point, I don't know that Sanofi cares very much so long as they can move their existing inventory without big losses.

I wonder if they can start negotiating with the insurance companies, based on a future price. That would put them ahead of the game. Insurance companies may not be able to offer coverage until the price changes, but the paperwork would be in place so that they could initiate coverage at the lower price when the time comes (April 5 or later). Anyone know someone who works for an insurance company that offers drug coverage?
