I have an update that I would like to hear feedback on.. This women has recently had her Gal bladder removed about 3 months ago and ever since that now she says she don't need any insulin and it's as if her Diabeties is gone . She has been a typ 1 for about 25 years and insulin dependent what is up with this,I'm not that medically knowledgeable to understand if there is any connection. Has anyone ever heard of this? She may have been misdiagnosed and really Type 2. There would have been an assumption 25 years ago that if she presented in DKA or with large ketones that she was a Type 1. It is likely at that point that they put her onto insulin and left it at that. You can take insulin even if you don't need it, your body reduces the amount of it's phase 2 insulin, so it's possible to be on insulin unnecessarily. I would be curious to know if she is diabetic at all (what happens if she drinks a pint of orange juice and measures her levels 15 minutes later?) Also how much insulin was she taking and what was her carb ratio.

A partial obstruction that has now been cleared (accidentally) by the operation? That's what I was wondering. Now her pancreas is working.

If I was her I would insist (strongly) on an antibody test and c-peptide test, and make sure they did all the antibodies and not just GAD65. If she comes back negative for antibodies and with any sort of c-peptide level I would want a long conversation with my doctor because the odds are extremely good that this was a misdiagnosis and she is not Type 1. I have no idea what part of the world she lives in but I would want a good endo for this.

I would take frequent blood glucoses to see what the heck my blood glucose was doing. If my blood glucose levels were good, and I would rely heavily on the morning blood glucose, and I felt good, my doctors office would never see me again. it would be a, "Thanks for the memory" situation.
I am bad.
