This.
Imagine a PWD in South Africa who wants to try Afrezza. Instead of hunting a pharmacy or a mom and pop pharmacy, the PWD can reach out to Tanner pharma and get access to Afrezza.
Now the logistics part - who gets how much is not something we will know. But every PWD out there can get Afrezza through Tanner Pharma confidently that its a genuine product and not a counterfeit.
Try this. A rich well connected person in a country other than the USA, has a child or is themselves a type one diabetic. They want Afrezza. Now they can get it. The operative word, wealthy. UAE? Finally?

WOW ! Gotta love this news! Now we are truly "international" to the max with minimal effort. One distributor that will fill in all the areas that we may not have been able to cover. Great connection MNKD.
Guess I need to transfer in more $$$ to E*Trade and load up on these low priced shares.
Two things that I'm not sure about is ... Banks Bourne brother's name is Jason. Also, does that poster who says he doesn't even have a tv own a company called Kite Pharma?

I know this is anti-social but lets look at this a bit more clearly. Tanner is a portfolio company of Bourne Partners, and TannerGAP is a subsidiary of Tanner Pharma. So Bourne bought out two healthcare companies and put them together to make Tanner Pharma. Fairly standard IB stuff, buy some components and see if you can make a viable business. This does not mean Tanner have the keys to Bourne's treasury, quite the opposite, they will be on a very tight leash.
Bourne and Carlyle. Meh. I was once in a deal with Deutsche Bank and trust me we were really insignificant, but it meant we could say we had been in deal with DB. I am not saying that is the case here, but deals are very much a marriage of convenience and I would read zero meaning into them.
The bottom line is that Mannkind has a channel for supplying Afrezza to foreign countries, a while back there was a company doing this with India. It is very unlikely to amount to much but it ticks a box and at least shows they are paying attention to the details.

Another day, and another suspense. This never ends with MNKD. I'm pretty sure it must be hard for Mike, COx and BoD to raise cash without diluting.. They are doing their part honestly (I really hope so). May be Kresa is again doing the saving act by asking for personal favor this time from Carlyle group. Good for him. He is being very proactive now. I guess he is recognizing that this can slip away if he doesn't pull in his contacts. But, this is taking so long. A lot of us are in this for more than 10 years. Holy **** - that's a lot of time, where the money hasn't grown but gone down. It's sad, but the trust on Al Mann and Afrezza keeps this going. Hopefully as Nate says, it will be a 300 bagger. Sometimes I think, Mike should just dilute this with the remaining 200 million (?) authorized shares at $1.5 - $1.7 (haha - I know, I know), raise a decent amount of cash, reverse split and then run full steam for a year and see where we go. It would be impractical to sell 200 million shares currently with a stock that is trading less than 25 million shares in the last month. Retail typically purchases the new dilutive shares.

Is any $ changing hands? Do these agreements between companies usually involve money up front? The funniest thing (in a black humour sort of way) I read today, and I am paraphrasing poorly, is a comment someone made about 'still unclear how much Mannkind had to pay for Tanner to take on distributor role.'

I have not seen "exclusive" anywhere. So this may be just another "distribution avenue". It all counts though. It may make logistics better and easier to sales forces and/or medics around the world. I am optimistic that the next corp meeting will provide details. wmdhunt agree with your observation. Here are a few of my observations on this: a. this distribution arrangement probably is not an exclusive distribution arrangement, as wmdhunt noted above. Note the language "The agreement names Tanner as a distributor of Afrezza® outside of the United States in regions the product is not yet registered." b. Further to the observation under item a. above, I would assume this arrangement is in addition to whatever partnership/ self-filing that Mannkind is working on (Europe, Canada, Mexico, China, Middle East), etc., as noted by Mike in previous conference calls/presentations. Matt’s post on this probably is what the two parties are thinking of (i.e., where Mannkind has not signed a distribution agreement or filed for approval itself, Tanner Pharmacy will have the rights to distribute Afrezza to the customers there). c. Tanner Pharmacy/Bourne Partner probably is not as niche or small as some would think. See a few relevant reports below. 1. The Carlyle Group and Bourne Partners Form Phoenix Therapeutics to Build Global Pharma Company NEW YORK, NY and CHARLOTTE, NC – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG) announced today that it has formed a joint venture with Bourne Partners, a healthcare-focused investor, operator and investment banking firm, to build a global pharmaceutical platform. This new venture, known as Phoenix Therapeutics, will be owned by Carlyle Partners VI, a $13 billion U.S. buyout fund, with a minority investment from Bourne Partners. Leveraging the financial resources and experience of Carlyle and Bourne, Phoenix Therapeutics will look to operate a pharmaceutical platform built through acquisitions. Phoenix Therapeutics will consider a range of acquisitions, including product and asset acquisitions, corporate acquisitions and carve-outs. www.carlyle.com/media-room/news-release-archive/carlyle-group-and-bourne-partners-form-phoenix-therapeutics-build Bourne Partners Global Healthcare Summit in Charlotte NC on Oct 2 is being promoted by Tanner. www.tannerpharma.com/events/

Lol. I wonder if anyone else had an option. Not that Tanner really had a choice if the IB providing their funding told them to do it.

Thank you. Presented what to who? Dr. Kendall probably gets invites to speak on a variety of topics. If he was presenting afrezza, I don't think it would have hurt to issue a press release about it. And who were the 35 customers Mike had dinner with? Patients? Hospitals? Pharmacies? What was the dinner about?

This PR is not about weekly sales increases (Tanner sales will not show up there) or international partnerships for specific markets or desperation.
It it also not cryptic at all.
It is clearly about getting Afrezza to patients around the world NOW.
“Al Mann had a vision of making Afrezza available to all people living with diabetes around the world and this agreement helps accelerate that access to Afrezza on a named patient access basis in underserved international markets,” said Michael Castagna, Chief Executive Officer of MannKind. “Our partnership with Tanner Pharma to distribute Afrezza provides us a strong partner with a track record of success in working with physicians, hospitals and ministries of health to provide medicine that is not currently available in their country.”
Every physician or hospital in Tanner's network of customers around the world will NOW be able to get Afrezza for their patients.
That is a very good thing for all.
Go MNKD!
