United Therapeutics strikes nine-figure deal to commercialize new form of drug delivery

United Therapeutics (NASDAQ: UTHR) is licensing a dry powder formulation of treprostinil, the active ingredient in Remodulin, in development by MannKind Corp. (NASDAQ: MNKD). The system is currently in the clinical trials stage.
The deal will expand the delivery methods for Remodulin, now available in intravenous, injectable and oral forms. United Therapeutics will be responsible for the global development, regulatory and commercial activities of the drug's new form.
Westlake Village, California-based MannKind will manufacture clinical supplies and initial commercial supplies out of its Danbury, Connecticut, plant, while United Therapeutics will manufacture long-term commercial supplies of the product.

United Therapeutics has a long history with treprostinil and MannKind. Exactly 21 years ago, UT CEO Martine Rothblatt said in a statement, the Maryland company combined one of its creations with a parenteral infusion pump called MiniMed 407c, invented by Alfred Mann, to create Remodulin.
Rothblatt said the new inhalation devices will be "revolutionary."
In late July, United Therapeutics received Federal Drug Administration approval for an implantable pump for Remodulin. The drug, perhaps soon-to-be-available as a generic, generated sales of $286.3 million in the first six months of the year for United Therapeutics.

She has a vision similar to what Al Mann had IMO. Oh man I have been thinking about this all last night and this morning. She wants to develop a cure and her drive is exacerbated by her daughter being diagnosed with PAH which apparently lead to United. I think the gears are probably turning right now with the renewed inspiration of Al Mann. Al showed the world that solutions to disease exists and is totally possible if you have passion, patience, and persistence. I think this partnership between UT and MannKind has already blew the doors off that leads to possibility. MannKind technology could be utilized in UT’s subcutaneous formulations and tablets for superior stability and unnecessary additives etc. FDKP opens the doors for UT and could be a platform they are considering for their tumor/cancer threatments as well. |

There is the cannabidiol application. Illegal and confiscation laws. Cannabinoid receptors are expressed in cancer cells. Endocannabinoids regulate cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. THC mimics Anandamide and CBD is a buffer, a endocannabinoid modulator. It might be common sense to utilize this system to inhibit cancers and induce cancer cell death. Maybe UT will want to collaborate with RLS. |

Maybe they already are? I still can't figure out who Andrea works for. I know it says RLS on her profile but to me this RLS thing is like a James Bond plot and they have been off the radar a long time |
