Is the first subsidiary of a publicily held company(UNITED THERAPUTICS). That means that along with profitability and shareholder's value the charter of LUNG BIO TECH PBC also carries with it a cause to carry on business for the public good... now you might think all pharma would fit in this catagory, but, officially, it does not... From what I see, LUNG BIOTECH is the first... SO why is this important or not to mnkd?
Lung Biotech is responsible in part for all inhalation research/ medications such as TYVASO as a subsidiary of UTHR and has played a major role with SAMUMED'S phase studies that were announced today in terms of systic fibrosis... They are obviously the pulmonary brain/center of UTHR - Samused I read somewhere has a 12b dollar valuation as a private company which based on their research is interesting and potentially miniscule if they sucseed.
Anyhow, obviously, mnkd is a pulmonary focused pharma with not just a new deal on tyvaso but a research proposition that exceeds pah - this would possibly touch on samumed's molecules, who knows?
It's the public benefit part of lung bio tech that I am truly curious about - not just bc they are the first one in the us to ever be a subsidiary of any public company - but also, because of their role within that company and its similarities with respect to mnkds...
Perhaps more details that do/don't add up - but being as this is the way forward - and hoping uthr's interest was not simply to take out a competitor, we'll see.

Those trees on the home page. Are they some of the same trees that are on the RLS website? Maybe we just found a connection!

Are there any financial advantages to a company being a "public benefit company"? What I found indicates a lot more paperwork for the company without much practical benefit to the company's operations.

On their last earnings release uthr did mention an impairment charge with respect to their investment in a privately held company -not sure what company or how it relates but yes the public betterment thing is new to me as well.

Beta bionics , an artifical pancreas company, is also a public benefit company. The only one I ever heard of until today.
