That "we buy Merck" comment brought a lot of laughter at that meeting. I think I heard a story that Al felt a bit sheepish about the name "MannKind," don't think he was thinking of it as a legacy. I remember reading years ago that the name actually started in jest and stuck. If I can find the link, I'll post it.

Some how it doesn't ring true that someone just names a company after a "jest". What's wrong with a guy that has accomplished so much in life, and some really beneficial things, wanting his name remembered.

manmade,
If you (and others) want to look at the Greenhill payment structure, it was filed with the SEC. It's a Milestone Agreement filed July 1, 2013. You can search SEC Filings by Company and will find there were several documents filed that day. The one you're looking for is the doc that ends in ".3" if memory serves.
The payments to Greenhill are made in cash (drats... no additional SEC to tip us off) due upon completion of the following milestones
$5m - Partnership Agreement
$10m - Product launch
...followed by a series of $5m incremental payments based on sales milestones, starting at $500m and ending at $1.5B.
I believe the cash payments to Greenhill will total $90m if Afrezza reaches the final milestone.
Good fortune all. Without the numbers you reference, that is just about what Matt told me at the time... thanks for the follow up.

In this country most people simply pay a University for the honor of having their name on a building without having necessarily done any of the research the building is associated with... Al has paid the money but more importantly done the time and research...

Partnership might be better for Mannkind, because of the $2bil plus in tax loss carry forwards.

This from an interview from Al himself in 2007. "Mann, who survived two minor bouts of cancer but said he was healthy, said his will instructed the foundation that will inherit his wealth to make sure that his companies have enough money. And he said the company's name was meant to be a joke." www.dailynews.com/general-news/20071201/diabetes-southland-resident-alfred-e-mann-has-invested-much-of-his-estate-in-developing-new-drugI wouldn't usually dig this hard for something so trivial, but it has come up a number of times. Hopefully this sets the record striaght. IMHO is doesn't, for a nanosecond, dimish his contributions to society.

Goyo, good job. I remembered it too and I searched long and hard to find that for you but I never did find it.

My bad... you're correct that the Milestone Agreement is with Deerfield. Sorry...

Actually, we have Greenhill, Deerfield and Dreamfield. The only one I trust is Dreamfield, they make good pasta. However, our hopes lie with Greenhill. Hopefully they don't become our Bunker Hill. The recent price movement has forced me to go into a self imposed quiet period of denial. A week or so ago, I was checking out the weather in Hawaii and now I am back to checking out the long range forecast for Siberia. Even the new Pots and Pans and Hammers can't cheer me up. BTW, some of these new guys put Spiro's optimism to shame. The incredible thing is, I keep buying more shares of MNKD. Of well, hopefully, if I have to go to Siberia, this Polar Vortex of global warming will go away by the time I get there. It's cold enough there without global warming making things colder. OK, it's time to go back into my quiet period of denial.
