Started a new thread because this deserves it's own.
Mike said we will be profitable next quarter. He didn't say we will start being profitable next quarter.
Is this a 1 quarter thing due to the 1 time payment from UT? We are not going to be profitable from Afrezza sales which would be an ongoing profit. Or are we?
Things look very positive. But it sounds like some of us think the runway will be infinite in another quarter.
Can someone provide clarity on this?

I didn't listen to the call. I think in the shout box someone said "gross profit." If that is the case, it generally omits fixed costs, so costs that remain regardless of how much you produce or sell. Costs omitted would include advertising, salaries (except for sales and production staff), office supplies, etc. Even so, that would be huge!

That is a swing.

Interesting that you posted that song. No one knows what it means. The band has never explained it.

Interesting that you posted that song. No one knows what it means. The band has never explained it. Apparently the band's name is open to interpretation, but one of the song's writer's (Keith Reid) has commented on what the song is about: "I was trying to conjure a mood as much as tell a straightforward, girl-leaves-boy story. With the ceiling flying away and room humming harder, I wanted to paint an image of a scene. I wasn’t trying to be mysterious with those images, I was trying to be evocative. I suppose it seems like a decadent scene I’m describing. But I was too young to have experienced any decadence, then. I might have been smoking when I conceived it, but not when I wrote. It was influenced by books, not drugs." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Whiter_Shade_of_Pale

Next qtr will be profitable because the 45mil payment from UTHR will be booked. However, in attempt to see the big picture, just three technosphere deals with the potential of TrepT makes MNKD profitable year after year based on10% royalties alone. I hope growth of Afrezza sales along with milestone payments provides sufficient capital to this outcome. In my mind this is now the only uncertainty in MNKD future but it becomes clearer each day.

Profit next quarter. Cash runway no longer a concern. Afrezza sales climbing. Brazil to get approval this quarter. Juvenile diabetes acceptance forthcoming. TS pipeline now has numerous applications and more to come. So much good news. It will be interesting to hear how the long list of naysayers dig deep for negatives in their final chapter.

Q4 18 will be profitable based on UT upfront payments. Next year at least 1 more quarter will be profitable (UT 25M milestone). If UT decides to move forward with 2nd drug, we will have 2 quarters profitable in 2019. If RLS milestones are of substance then maybe 3 profitable quarters in 2019. If Brazil sales are of substance, then FY19 as a whole could be profitable as well. We know Afrezza US sales are currently trending upward 20M net a year but I believe we will see a lot more... PCPs are coming on board. Yes, I am an optimist Go MNKD!

Depending on how the payment from UTHR is booked, the company should be profitable. As I read it, the $10 MM is for formulation and pre-commercial production but if the auditors don't see it that way they may make the company spread the revenue over the same number of quarters that the formulation and production work is done. Absent another UTHR type of deal, the pendulum will swing back to red in the first quarter as the company is still showing more than $20 MM per quarter in operating losses on the base business; Afrezza sales are a long way from filling that hole.

I'll read the transcript when I get a chance, but do you know offhand if they said anything about showing a positive NET profit?

I thought that what he meant was that in Q4 the "Net revenue - commercial product sales $ 4,387" line will be greater than "Cost of goods sold 5,303." Not quite all the way to cash flow positive, but a good milestone along the way.
It is exciting to hear that we will be putting more focus on growing Technosphere while we grow Afrezza sales. Imagine a few years down the road when we should have multiple income streams. Afrezza (adding international and pediatric), United Therapeutics, RLS, and ... I think it was always the vision, but we hit some bumps along the way that made it look like we might not get there.
