My pops went to the hospital with some heart trouble yesterday and ended up having to get two stents placed He is diabetic so today the diabetes nurse educator came in saying his A1C is at 8 and that he really needs to be at 7 or below, she mentioned different meds and injections, my pops asked about afrezza and to my surprise she said she knew of it and that it was a good medicine (good news) however she said it’s not for everyone because you need to do a pulmonary exam (bad news)
At least there is awareness now,

I went to the dentist for the first time in a year+ ( I know, I know) and the dental hygienist was going over the medical form, asking all the relevant questions....She asks, "still doing Lantus and the inhaled insulin?". I say yes, Afrezza inhaled insulin - just to create some awareness. She replies, "Oh, my good friend uses the inhaled insulin too"....we chatted a bit more...her friend diagnosed type 1, 5 years ago.
This is my first time in the outside world hearing of another Afrezza user. It's something - better than nothing.

I’m a little ignorant with the disease but I know that my pops doesn’t have to do insulin shots but the lady said today that he could need them if he doesn’t get it improved

The problem is PWDs are not making enough insulin and the non-insulin orals don't make insulin. Sooner or later the pancreas wears out working overtime.

The problem is PWDs are not making enough insulin and the non-insulin orals don't make insulin. Sooner or later the pancreas wears out working overtime. To be pedantic (who? me?) typically Type 2 make a lot of insulin, it's that their insulin resistance overwhelms it. Type 1 has an absolute insulin deficiency, Type 2 has a relative insulin deficiency. It's why for some Type 2 diabetics losing weight to reduce insulin resistance, or SGLT2 physically removing excess glucose via the kidneys rather than using insulin fixes things. Strain the kidneys for to long by not fixing things and your beta cells absolutely will die.
