Statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., on unprecedented new efforts to support development of over-the-counter naloxone to help reduce opioid overdose deathsInhalation would also be a safe and effective alternative when there is poor venous access, which is common in IV drug users. Would be great to have in the pre-hospital setting and also in EDs. Also would significantly reduce undesirable side effects associated with other ROA, and allow for ultra-rapid onset that can be self-administered. www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm629571.htmReview of nebulzed naloxone: epmonthly.com/article/nebulized-naloxone-for-acute-opioid-overdose/

Right, if unconscious then it can be used once the patient becomes more alert. They can then self-administer, allowing for self-titration.
