investors.mannkindcorp.com/news-releases/news-release-details/mannkind-sponsor-andretti-autosport-type-1-diabetes-driver-conorIndyCar Driver Living with Diabetes Helps Raise Awareness for Diabetes Treatment Options WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., March 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MannKind Corporation (Nasdaq:MNKD) announced today it is sponsoring Conor Daly as he makes his debut with the Andretti Autosport team at the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26, 2019. MannKind is an associate sponsor of Andretti Autosport for this race and will partner with Daly on his No. 25 U.S. Air Force Honda. Daly was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 14, and now lends his racing career to raise awareness of diabetes treatment options and innovations. “Living with diabetes since age 14 has been a challenge, but one that I’ve always faced head on,” said Daly. “Managing my diabetes properly has been a key to being able to live my racing dream. Diabetes should never stop you from pursuing what you want in life! Thanks to MannKind I will be able to share my story and live my dream at a higher level than ever." “MannKind is continually seeking platforms to increase awareness around the challenges, opportunities and successes people living with diabetes encounter on a daily basis,” says Michael Castagna, CEO of MannKind. “Seeing someone like Conor take on a challenging sport such as IndyCar racing, while having to manage his diabetes, is an inspiration to all those living with diabetes. We are excited to be associated with Conor and Andretti Autosport for the Indy 500 and look forward to a partnership where we can help educate people on treatment options for managing their diabetes.” As an associate sponsor of Daly at the Indy 500, MannKind is planning events and experiences that build awareness of innovation in diabetes treatment. The events and sponsorship promotion will also allow for Daly to share his story about living with diabetes.

The obvious correlation between a race car driver and our Afrezza is to show how fast Afrezza works against the conventional needle insulin. Now let's see that commercial happen!

Does he actually use afrezza? Will afrezza stickers be on the car? If he wins it would be great if he pulls out a dreamboat and uses it before drinking the champagne or milk (or whatever they drink).

My son and I are auto racing fans and have season tickets (ARCA, USAC, Camping World Trucks & Indy Cars) to the local track. Last year there was a Camping World truck sponsored by Tresiba. I have a picture of the pit road sign on my phone but am not sure how to post it or whether it even matters.

Even though I don't follow Indy (I'm more of an F1 guy), this sponsorship news is sort of exciting. I've seen how exciting F1 is when it comes to Montreal, and I will assume Indy races capture at least a little of the same sort of buzz. FWIW, wiki says the Andretti Autosport team has won there 3 times in recent years (in 2014, 2016, 2017). So his car (presumably with some Mannkind / Afrezza art work?) may get some air time, even though he is (apparently) not among Andretti's top drivers / main contenders. Conor Daly's personal best finish at the Indy 500 was 21st. His best Indy finish ever was 18th. "Conor Daly joins Andretti Autosport as team's fifth entry into Indy 500." www.espn.com/racing/story/_/id/25884189/conor-daly-joins-andretti-autosport-team-fifth-entry-indy-500

In the beginning of the press release it says mnkd is sponsoring, at the end it says mnkd is an associate sponsor. Which means we aren't going to have a dreamboat covering the hood. We will probably have a little patch on 1 elbow of his jacket.

I remember when SIRIUS Satellite Radio sponsored a NASCAR Driver and it was like $25+ Million a year to sponsor a car.

I think of race car drivers as having some commonalities with airplane pilots .... such as good vision, good reaction times, and dependable physical condition to be alert and do the job. The airplane pilot licensing authorities are very hard on diabetics. This sponsorship of Conor Daly, an Indy driver, sends a strong message to diabetics about what they can do (with Afrezza).

One thing we all have to remember is that, while the sponsorship is exciting, it will only have the right impact if the car qualifies for the race. Only 33 cars make it and I know there will be at least a few more cars than that trying to get in.
