Administrivia: Issues when registering for the board

When somebody registers to be a member here, they now really kinda have to run through the gauntlet with sign-up red tape. This is beyond our control, except for one part that we do control: the need to enter a short "reason" for wanting to join the board. This is simple 'bot-resisting.
The problem is, as I went through the process myself posing as a first-timer, I found that somebody in a hurry could miss the part about having to fill in a reason for joining the board. The canned formatting and wording was just weird enough.
So, I've updated the information in the link at the upper-right of the home page, "Trouble registering?" with a warning about that.
I'm pinning this for a little while so that everyone is aware of the issue and, if a friend tries to register and is having trouble, now you know where to point them to troubleshoot.
