As a long term follower of vaccine tech I can safely say that nothing moves on this front. Ever... There is significant money to be made with betting against innovative vaccine developers. This being said Technovax technology and Mannkind Technosphere tech would be conceptually one of the most elegant solutions for an Ebola vaccine in Africa. At the same time there is something different about Ebola then previous 'pandemic scares'. The way things are evolving in the affected countries little (outside of massive foreign help which hasn't happened so far) will stop Ebola from becoming endemic in West Africa (and eventually most of Africa). This could destabilizing African society to the point of breakdown. This also has the potential to repeatedly and more and more frequently 'leak out' of Africa to Europe, India and North America. Certain war torn parts of Africa and certain world mega cities (Lagos, Kinshasa, Karachi, New Delhi etc) could be major problem spots. Look at the chaos a few cases caused in the West. Imagine having this happen on a weekly or even daily basis? What would happen? Africa would be 'locked out' but still the 'leaks' would continue. An easily distributed and easily administered vaccine like Technovax and Mannkind could provide based on VLP tech/Technosphere could be ready for testing in a few short weeks. I certainly wouldn't invest in Mannkind for this but it certainly would be very interesting! JPG

That is exactly why the U.S. needs to do whatever it takes to stop this where it is. If it gets to someplace like India... we're in for economic problems that will put 2008-2009 to shame.

Mediecin sans Frontieres repeatedly and loudly stated 'now is the time to act before it is to late'. That was months and months ago. Now, with the current technology and therapeutics we have it will be very very expensive, complicated and hard to slow this down if there even really is an international will to do so. The only reason to think there will ever be significant mobilization will be to save the world economy from eventual chaos ’Ebola leaks' will cause. An effective and easily used vaccine would make the difference between an out of control epidemic with sporadic pandemic characteristics and a manageable and eventually endemic disease. The ease of use of the vaccine would be particularly important when dealing with crumbling medical systems that Ebola is creating. You could distribute these vaccines with pictures explaining how to use them and not even need health care workers.

You make a very credible case...seems like a rationale for fast-tracking (through the FDA approval process) one or more vaccines that could work. Do we have anything that is "close enough" [in the R&D process] to do what needs to be done?

Hi 4Balance,
I just posted on the Cricket post something which should answer your question.

You might also want to check out an old MannKind patent I just posted on the Cricket thread... it may have application to the Ebola virus.
