The following rule has recently been added to the Board Rules (link is up top on the home page):
I placed the text above into the "Quote" tag just by highlighting it and selecting the "Quote" button, third-from-right in the button bar of the composition window. Just just can't be in "Quick Reply" mode.
I think it's self-explanatory but I'll leave this thread open for discussion if anyone cares to comment. We're all figuring this out as we go along.

Interesting rule. I think I saw the FCC or maybe it was FTC recently issued a similar rule to telemarketers. I have the same thought now as when I read that. Good luck enforcing it.

We pretty much have to rely on the honor system as far as this is concerned. To us it’s a rule that makes sense to reduce potential misinformation. There’s an underlying assumption that members here are on board with keeping things real.
If an interloper shows up and abuses the right to post chatbot text, I suspect the membership here will promptly call that out.
I’m not losing sleep over it.

We see some lame stuff occasionally here, but someone making up fake chatbot posts would take the cake. Not concerned!

I have called out when I was supplying content copy-and-pasted from ChatGPT. I did that because I am lazy and wanted to copy-and-paste but it was going to be obvious it wasn’t my writing style and I would have been embarrassed to be called out for it. However, I’m also disclaiming it was not my original thinking or research and if people think it is hooey which it may well be, they can look further.
You may get better results with your honor system if you encourage people to be transparent as a matter of etiquette rather than discouraging uncited copy-and-pasting as a rule. Just my 2 cents.

Where do you get "uncited", prc? The rule says a post must include which chatbot was used and the query text. The block quote is just to keep it unambiguous.

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding your issue here prc.

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding your issue here prc. Not your fault. I’m doing a poor job of writing it. I’m saying instead of making a rule prohibiting uncited use of AI that you can’t enforce, instead encourage good etiquette of citing when AI content is being used. Your suggestion of which AI engine and query are both reasonable, but just saying encourage, not discourage. Carrot versus the stick. Catching flies with honey instead of vinegar. Kinder gentler nation. Thousand points of light. Blah blah blah, BS BS.

So the rule feels like some kind of threat to you? That wasn't the intention. We are trying to encourage good etiquette...by putting it into the rules. We can't reward members financially for "doing the right thing", so maybe the closest thing to a carrot around here is giving someone a thumbs-up, but the entirety of the Board Rules is to say, "This is what works well, so please follow as best you can in order to keep things civil and so that you can retain your membership privileges" and not "Do this or we'll smite you!" lol.
