Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. The Christmas season has officially begun. Wanted to share some information that I think everyone will find intetesting. I saw my sister in law on Thanksgiving. She is a type 1 diabetic. She has almost died numerous times due to dangerously low blood sugars. She went to the doctor the other day and saw her primary care doc. She said a quote from her doctor " I'm so excited about the new inhaled insulin. You are going to really benefit from it as well as a lot of my other patients". My sister in law went on to ask her more about it. The doc didn't go into a lot of detail but did say that her and several of her colegues are very excited about the med coming to market and that a lot of her other patients have been asking about it. This is just one doctor. How many others feel this way? I think a lot do. I think come first quarter we are all going to be very happy. I think this medication will be well received by doctors and patients. Coco

Not that I don't take what girl doctors say seriously, but I do hope that at least some of her colleagues to whom she refers are men!
(Spiro put me up to this!)

Likewise; I went to my endocrinologist last week. The visit before he told me to sell all of my MNKD because he was "exubra" oriented telling me that Afrezza would not pass the FDA and was surprisingly ignorant about it. This last visit he had a change of attitude asking me when he should buy Mannkind. Attitudes are changing.

Perhaps many PCPs and Endos simply don't have the time to thoroughly research newly approved meds. This is where Sanofi's prowess will make a difference... once they've finished educating the uneducated physicians and medical academics Afrezza prescriptions could exceed expectations.

This is where Sanofi's prowess will make a difference... once they've finished educating the uneducated physicians and medical academics Afrezza prescriptions could exceed expectations. I can assure you the vast majority of MDs do not have the time to research superficially, let alone thoroughly, newly approved meds. The stream of new meds is extraordinarily difficult to even track, let alone understand. Like you say: this is where Sanofi makes a difference. I don't think Afrezza will be a hard sell. The MDs I have talked to about this were generally interested in the kinetics and ease of use of Afrezza. Some GPs seemed interested in not having to refer their patients to endos. Like the endo at the adcom 2 endos I talked to seemed to worry they would get fewer long term references for initiation of insulin and one of the 2 said he wanted to 'get in front' of Afrezza and be seen as the expert ahead of the pack. I wonder how many endos will do this? It would make sense for endos to want to get 'first mover advantage' I guess? I had never thought of that before that comment. Interesting though. Could there be a small competition between GPs and endos to use Afrezza? Don't know but that certainly would work out well! JPG

Thanks for the info Coco, I am sure similar conversations are happening all over the country. One thing is certain, MNKD and SNY will need a lot more production lines and soon. If Sanofi drug reps are getting similar feed back from their doctors, it is very likely that SNY and MNKD will announce production expansion early next year, possibly even before launch.
