As both a newbie here and a relatively new retail investor, I am trying to gain insight into the place of MNKD inthe pantheon of stocks (mostly to hopefully get some encouragement in light of the recent selloff/unopposed manipulation).
I would like to ask the old hands in trading about how they see the opportunity in MNKD vis a vis other stocks they have invested in (orshoukld have in hindsight) in the past. Thoughts?
By way of reference, I went whole hog into Tesla in early 2013 bc as a space nut, I have awesome respect for Elon Musk as a unique man of integrity, brilliance and tenacity with Spacex. ( I had never done that with a stock before bc the be-suited mutual fund mgrs I had invested loved MSFT, etc. which ride a flat line all through the 2000s and me now fretting about eating cat food when I'm 70.) The zeal, intelligence, and perseverance of TSLA investors was also a very big part of what sold me on buying the stock before the run up. The rest is history.
I found MNKD shortly after and I see alot of parallels with Al Mann and MNKD investors. Yet no cigar. Is this an apt comparison?
TIA.

I fantasize that MNKD is another TSLA but I know for a fact that it is not. Here are my reasons why it's not an apr comparison.
1. Management. I have no respect for showmanship when it comes to industry leaders but at least he is openly enthusiastic about his product and never misses a chance to promote his company. MNKD management on the other hand is little league at that game compared to Musk's pro game. Musk is young and full of passion and takes pride in the ownership of his company while almost all of MNKD's management is one foot in the grave and have their retirements to take care of. They might also be jaded by how long and hard it has been just to get here.
2. Attention. The product is not sexy. It has great potential and it solves a real problem but there won't be the sort of attention lavished on it like a gleaming fast car. It will be a slow and long ride.
3. Product pipeline. Tesla can make plans and execute with little regulation stopping them. MNKD can have an excellent Technosphere application but still has to give the FDA a couple years before they can even claim to have something in their pipeline. You can think of it as TSLA only having the roadster
4. Control. Tesla controls the design, pricing, marketing, sales and support of their product. MNKD is flying blind with SNY partnership compared to what TSLA has

Great points, poorneil, sounds like you're absolutely all over the reasons one should not even attempt a comparison of MNKD with TSLA. An automobile built for maybe 1/2 of 1% of the wealthiest people in the world and an insulin product that can reach millions of diabetics, most of whose wealth has nothing at all to do with it.
I may try comparing MNKD with DeBeers, should be interesting.

thank you for the points re: differences in product etc. i guess my point was that the level of zeal and knowledge of MNKD shareholders impressed me. I think this has its own value, but I dont know if this is an anomaly for a stock. This is whatbi was trying to gain perspective on especially. Intend to think that this is an indication of a good stock.
Also the pt about Al Manns Elon's ELT's age is a good pt. surely Al does not have the same energy to lead MNKD as Elon does TSLA.

Maybe this will help add youth and sex appeal, which is obviously needed. In regards to pipeline: You are absolutely right; our pipeline is pointless if it may take years to have an approved product on the market. It really is a shame MNKD is the only company that has to go through the drug approval process. What a shame. And control: I cannot argue with you here, either. I would have much rather had MNKD control the launch. Think of how much fun it would have been to have a company that has no experience in launching a drug; lacking adequate staffing to launch the drug; lacking the necessary capital to launch a drug; lacking international abilities; and so on. This would have been much more exciting.

I was sarcastic about everything except the hot, young blonde CEO

I for one was not being sarcastic. My reasons are only my understanding as to why TSLA and MNKD are different. That wasn't a wishlist as to what I want changed in MNKD. (Not that it matters what I wish for)
This is off topic but speaking of young blondes, I was reading up on Theranos led by the youngest female billionaire. So much smoke and mirrors that I am suspicious of young CEOs in general and good looking ones in particular.

Welcome to the Board.
My reason for investing in Mannkind is proven out by this 2012 CDC report card on Diabetes showing the incidence of Diabetes increasing. Read the report and then think about How Afrezza can be used as the GOLD standard of Treatment especially for Type 2 diabetics. Al Mann has stated many times that most diabetics avoid treatment for diabetes until its too late and complications set in from lack of treatment. I believe he called this the lost decade. That 10 year period where the diabetic is in denial until he has very serious life threatening health issues and than starts injection insulin. Getting a Type 2 on Afrezza will be easier than getting them started on injections. So when you read the CDC report think about how many potential users there are for early diabetes treatment with Afrezza. Afrezza will become the GOLD standard for treatment. Both in the USA and eventually Worldwide. Sanofi knows it by the early results of Users since launch. This is a ticking time bomb ready to go off on the SHORTS as more folks learn about Afrezza.
Take the time to read the CDC report card on Diabetes. It very clearly shows why Afrezza will become the GOLD standard for Diabetes treatment especially for Type 2.
Time is on $MNKD Side #Afrezza GOLD standard.T2DM 95% of diagnosed

From my perspective, much of the angst among traders & investors comes from having hoped MNKD would rocket into the stratosphere. After all, didn't the share price increase something like 280% post-ADCOM / pre-FDA? Traders, many of whom were of the Johnny-come-lately variety, were piling into this stock in the hopes that after FDA approved and partnership announcement (or the reverse of that order) MNKD would explode. And, of course, everyone just luvs the "short squeeze" or "buyout" scenario, which Mann's history has fueled with this stock. I luv the ideas myself, to be honest.
Recalling Tesla may be unrealistically adding hope that some "thing" may finally propel MNKD back to the price investors and traders feel "it deserves". I am as enthusiastic as the next guy about MNKD, but I've resigned myself that I may have to wait a bit longer than I had hoped to indulge in "Party Hardy, Marty".
I, too, would like things to happen sooner. But comparing how being a shareholder of MannKind compares to what shareholders of other companies like Tesla had to endure? That may be fun to speculate on a similar thing happening to MannKind shareholders, but it will not help me face the reality that the fulfillment of my hopes (i.e. cabin, travel, etc.) may take longer than I wanted.
So my perspective? I think it's more productive to work on building up my fortitude and to prepare for "worst-case" than to day dream about "what if's. I haven't read up on the Tesla story, nor do I plan to.
Frankly, I don't want to make comparisons because I really don't think there is another company in existence that has provided as unique an experience for investors and stock traders than what MannKind Corporation has provided.
----
BTW - I think the next 18 months is going to provide PLENTY of fun for MNKD share holders.

I would be careful what you take as advice. I am new to forum and investing. There are lots of people who will tell you to load up. I have been reading it since the originally GSCO DG. Guess what they are all in the red. Perspective on a pro mnkd board is not going to happen. I am long the stock. I think its a great product but don't buy into the over emotional posters. Do your own research and buy when you are ready.
