So it would not include short trades by an individual investor? Surely there are firms on there like fidelity that cater to individual Investors? Stockshortdata.com for short data other than finra. That website is not an official source of information. Finra would be the more appropriate source.

Finra would be the more appropriate source. There is no "official" source of all shares traded. There are sites that aggregate all shares from all exchanges. This is just one of those sites. Plus it' has colored alerts based on short percentages that have been predictive of price movements. Finra data is a large but incomplete portion of shares traded each day plus it does not include dark pool. Why would you trust incomplete data?

But I trust that site less than I trust FINRA. And you are right, FINRA is not official. I suppose that unless it comes directly from the government regulatory agency itself, the SEC (who also walks a thin line regarding trust) it cannot be "official".

In addition to operating the transparency facilities for collection of necessary regulatory information, FINRA disseminates information to industry members and the broad investing public. Examples offerings include: Reports of stock-by-stock volum [the typo is on FINRA's site] of Alternative Trading Systems (ATS), including dark pools. www.finra.org/industry/transparency-services

The text file representing the most recent day of trading does not include dark pool volume.
