It is Spiro's opinion that DTC will be successful, particularly with the older population. A lot of older diabetics, don't Twitter, Facebook or e-mail, heck they don't even own a computer, but they do sit around and watch TV all day. Spiro has three Type 2 diabetic friends, none of them use a computer at home and none of them have a copy of their recent lab reports or A1c reports.
Friend #1, late 70s, Type 2, does not know the name of his diabetes meds or latest A1c result.
Friend #2, early 70's, Type 2, Also knows nothing, bought a laptop 6 months ago, but doesn't use the free internet from her cable provider fearing a virus?
Friend #3, early 70's, Type 2, Started on Metformin by PCP over 2 years ago, after A1c went over 8, he was referred to an Endo. His endo doubled his Metformin and started him on Victoza. He also does not ask for copies of his lab reports. He mentioned all of the bad side effects of Victoza and was going to discuss them with his Endo.
Spiro has shared his Afrezza story with all three of them and encouraged them to find out more about Afrezza. It's amazing how many seniors are oblivious to treatment alternatives. You know, 4 months ago Spiro actually thought that he was in worst shape than all three of them. His A1c was 7.1 and rising and he had pathetic lab reports. Now 4 months after starting Afrezza, He is sitting on a 6.2 A1c and dropping, with the remainder of his important blood tests being at normal levels for the first time in over 20 years. it sure seems like Afrezza has given Spiro the ability to manage his diabetes quite well and hopefully slow down it's progression. It's most unfortunate that Spiro's three good friends do not appear to be listening. Maybe one day, they will believe a TV advertisement.
Spiro is not certain that print media will be too successful targeting seniors, it will take TV ads to get to most of them. Last week, Spiro was sitting in his doctor's office with 5 or 6 other old farts for over 2 hours and not one of us picked up a magazine to read. Everyone knows that touching magazines in a doctor's office, literally invites disease into one's body. That would include touching door handles, counter tops and anything else.
Spiro here, lying low and trying to keep out of trouble, after getting the Lead position. Dang, it's really tough
