Dr. Denis I. Becker was rated top endocrinologist in 2014 and many other years by his patients and colleagues. I am grateful to be his patient. Today we discussed the superior results of my blood tests which showed an A1C of 6.5 (dropped from 7.6). Liver enzymes and kidney results were also near the middle of the spec. The lipid profile was excellent as triglycerides dropped from 188 to 104. The last closest number to that was 1/9/2010 which registered 132. My total cholesterol was 146 and I've never reached that number since I kept records beginning 1/21/05. At that time it was 178.
I asked the doctor how this could have happened. He said you are lowering your blood glucose to a point now where your body is healing itself.
As I mentioned previously, Dr. Becker has been very impressed with my glucometer readings since reviewing them after beginning Afrezza. He said that he would review the positive results with his colleagues.
I asked him today if he would tell me how many patients the clinic has on Afrezza. He said greater than 20 and they are all reporting very good results. I was Afrezza #2 patient at this practice.
Could you imagine how script numbers would read if all national endocrine clinics emulated Raleigh Endocrinology? Where are the other doctors?

NC,
Thanks for sharing your great results. Your conversation with your doctor is repeating itself over and over again all over the country, as more Afrezza user's get their A1c results for the first time. Now you have experienced that great feeling that Spiro got when he got similar results with his first A1c report and other results. Is there any better motivation to stay on course than seeing great results?

But on the conference call this morning they said getting insurance coverage was the major problem at this point, not the docs. How was your insurance experience and do you know if the majority of this clinic's patients are covered by the same plan? According to formularylookup.com there are still 3196 insurance plans that do not cover Afrezza! |

They pick up $150 per script. Hate to do it since it comes off their bottom line but better than paying $258 out of pocket. No, I wouldn't get so personal as asking what insurance other Afrezza patients have. Hippa would hang me! |

Many thanks for saying this Ncccapitalist, and glad for you. First and foremost, THIS is the reason I've been holding on MNKD for over 8 years without selling (nor lending for that matter;-) a single share (and averaging down enough to be in the green zone even at those bottom prices ;-). This is precisely what Al was referring to : "your body is healing itself".... And it's really, really, really great to read it from someone who can actually benefit from it, by actually buying it and not in yet another trial. Nothing else matters. Time will make the rest right ;-) |

I am certain Dr. Becker's practice will continue to prescribe Afrezza, as you state now he has more than 20 pts with the same good results .
The word will continue to spread among patients and physicians alike , it cannot be ignored forever , but as you stated your insurance is not covering it yet , and that to me is the biggest hurdle that must be conquered now.
I wonder if patients like yourself start writing to the insurance companies , relating the experience you and other are having , if that will make a difference .
If enough patients are advocates , by sending letters , as long as a large number does it , it might bring a change .

I had an idea sparked by charlespk's post above and also from thinking about possible uses for Compound's Blog. What if we created a letter to all insurance companies and posted it for diabetics to sign (like a petition)? We could attach Compound's blog as an exhibit.
This way diabetics who are interested in Afrezza but cannot get it due to pricing issues or lack of insurance coverage could sign our universal letter instead of having to take the time to draft their own letter and then find out who to send it too at their insurance company and then wait to hear back if at all.
Let's say we do this and we generate 100,000 or so signatures. We could then send to all the insurance companies the same letter signed by all the diabetics looking for this medication. It ought to get someone's attention...
We can also send it to some news outlets and perhaps even Dr. Oz or The Doctors as it now becomes a relevant story. Maybe even send to someone like Mary Tyler Moore who is quite active in diabetes circles. Or perhaps we engage people like Sam and Laura Kronen to help promote the petition and get interested diabetics to sign up.
Might also be good for Sanofi to have and show the FDA.

The last thing you want is a Pseudo-Doc sham like Oz pushing Afrezza right after a colon cleanse or some of the other hocus pocus frequently on his show. However, I do think a celebrity spokesperson would be a great step forward in public awareness.
