Filed in 2013. Metered! I wonder if it works, and how it will be qualified, if ever.
I really wonder how their prototype performed in the lab.

Nice find! Some highlights I saw while quickly perusing it.
It is a (breath-powered?) inhaler that permits metered amounts of powder to be moved from a storage container into a place accessible for inhalation. I didn't see the words "breath-powered" any where, but I see no indication that the powder is forcefully expelled. The patent is really for the metering system.
[0007] used to inhale a powdery substance [0029] mention that the agents for inhalation could be human insulin.

Does this mean that SNF, our reluctant partner, will soon be "competing" with MNKD?

No, this is exactly what I predicted months ago. A realtime glucose monitor, tied into a phone app with a menu tracker, tied to the exact dose of Afrezza. The feedback of how each person's body reacts to each meal and each dose make fine tuning possible.

Many believe the SNY & MNKD partnership was worked out PRIOR to the actual signed agreement involving Afrezza. Who really knows.....

SNAFU filed for the patent, then made the partnership, then sloooow launched Afrezza thus giving them time to develop their own inhaled insulin. Would take years to get that to market. Even if they did pursue their own device and formulation, they would still want Afrezza to survive and thrive

Sue, I sure hope not! Check out the slide presentations on their previous dinner seminars at tcoyd.org. Interesting stuff including inhalable insulin was 1st mentioned in the 1920's!

I kind of like this news, it tells me that SNY actually does see value in inhaled insulin. I also like how complicated their delivery device is, the drawings looks like it has at least 44 individual components in it. Can you imagine the manufacturing cost of this devise compared to the MNKD inhaler, no contest! To me it looks like SNY was planning to offer an inhaled insulin product with or without MNKD however the superior product than MNKD developed cinched the deal. I like this news alot actually!

I seem to recall that years ago, when Exubera was approved, many of the big pharmaceutical companies IMMEDIATELY began developing their own programs for inhaled meds. Recognizing the potential, they did not want to get left behind.
This time around, with Afrezza, the BPs are being a little more cautious, but I see Sanofi's interest in developing inhaled medications to be confirmation that they recognize how disruptive this technology might become. Of course, they have data that no other BP has because of Afrezza.

MN that is why I do not believe SNY will abandon MNKD in the near future. The data they have access to regarding TS should be priceless.

Sorry, I can NOT see how this isn't direct competition with MNKD and Technosphere. It is. The wise have eyes. It also looks like a patent infringement although MNKD may be so dependent and broke that it can't pursue SNY. This situation seems to get sadder by the day. I am long and underwater like so many here.
