There's been a lot of discussion about Afrezza being priced too high and having to be lowered. Is Afrezza really priced at a premium to novolog and humalog?? I just checked prices in my neck of the woods and Afrezza is much cheaper at around $285 for a month's supply versus $350 to $450 for the competitors.

Okay, so what do insurers pay Sanofi for Afrezza. And same question for novolog and humalog. Can anyone provide concrete answers so we all know where we are when discussing lowering prices?

Insurance companies tier drugs based on cost.. So if pricing is right, it should have gone to tier 2. So we know that much to vent that afrezza is priced premium and if priced below injectables, , watch Afrezza in tier 2 faster than you think.

I appreciate this civil back and forth. Just one more question, if I may... In terms of tiering, aren't there any other variables, besides just price?

That's $285/600u = $0.475/unit. Novolog pen is $465/1500u = $0.31/unit. That's retail pharmacy prices.

So tripoley's numbers equate to Afrezza needing to retail @ $186 to be competitive. That works on my calculator $186/600u=$0.31/unit.
From $285 to $186 - wow - that really shows how out there Sanofi was in pricing Afrezza

MNKD can demand an arm and leg..from payers

I would cut Afrezza price by 50% (i.e., from $285 to $140/150 per box), considering that average Afrezza users probably use more Afrezza unit wise because: (a) Afrezza will be less likely to cause hypo; (b) one can use larger doses and follow-up doses to get tighter control of BG levels: and (c) Matt B has noted that Afrezza will need larger doses for correction of high BG (but not for stopping BG from rising in the first place).

Any reduction may attract more out-of-pocket payers until it gets coverage.

A good first step for MNKD might be a high-profile slashing of the price, perhaps even announcing it at next week's presentation.
