Mix them, blend them with those tools. 1. Planning - Selecting goals and ways to attain them 2. Controlling - Monitor activities and make corrections 3. Leading - Use influence to motivate employees. 4. Organizing - Assign responsability for task accomplishments.
Leads to: - Attain goals - Products - Services - Efficiency - Effectiveness
It looks like after todays cc Matt has told us that, they are planning, controlling, leading and organizing. So I hope they are seriously on the right way. Leading is motivating everyone, leads to innovation. Innovation is organizational live.

I had the same thought when I was listening. I can only imagine people would much rather come to work under Matt than Hakan. Hopefully this isn't temporary and Matt/staff don't get burned out, but you can tell that he has the ability to light a fire under someone's ass. He seems fairly well organized and is a good speaker. Seems to be able to cast visions. Let's hope he gets some major revelations on how to swing this pendulum the other direction and MNKD the resources to pull them off!

Well we are looking for a level 5 leader here if we are talking about Pfeffer.
Level 5 means, Transforming companies from 'merely good' to 'truly great' organizations. This type of leader accept full responsibility for mistakes, poor results or failures. But give credit for succes to other people.
Leading the change you need more then a charismatic leader which inspires and motivates people to do more then they would normally do, despites obstacles and personal sacrifice. Charismatic leaders tend to be less predicatable then transactional leaders. They create an amosphere of change, and they may be obsessed by visionary ideas that excite, stimulate and drive other people to work hard. Charismatic leaders typically have a strong vision for the future, almost an obsesion, and they can motivate others to help realise it. These leaders have an emotional impact on subordinates because they strongly believe in the vision and communicate it to others in a way the makes the vision real, personal and meaningful. Charismatic and transformational leaders are passionate about a vision.
BUT:
We what we need is a Transformational leader. I think mr Pfeffer can be such a transformational leader. A Transformational leader is simulair to a charismatic leader, but are distinguished by their special ability to bring about innovation and change by recognizing followers needs and concerns, helping them look at the old problems in new ways, and encouraging them to question the status quo. He inspires followers not just to believe in the leader personally, but to believe in their own potential to imagine and create a better future for the organization. They have the ability to lead changes in the organization's mission, strategy, structure and culture as well to promote innovation in products and technologies. Transformational leaders to not rely solely on tangible rules and incentives to control specific transactions with followers. They focus on intangible qualities such as vision, shared values and ideas to build relationships, give larger meaning to diverse activities, and find common ground to enlist followers in the change process. In addition, transformational leaders are typically emotionally stable and positively engaged with the world arround them, and they have a strong ability to recognize and understand others emotions.
Level 5: The level 5 leader Builds an enduring great organization through a combination of personal humilty and professional resolve. Pfeffer,
Level 4: The Effective Executive Build widespread commitment to a clear and compelling vision; stimulates people to high performance
Level 3: Competent Manager Sets plans and organizes people for efficient and effective pursuit of objectives.
Level 2: Contributing Team member Contributes to the achievement of team goals; works effectively with others in a group.
Level 1: Highly Capable Individual Productive contributor; offers talent, knowlegde, skills and good work habits as ans individual employee.
