I know of a large Diabetes Center. They see about 800 patients a month for diabetes. Only two patients or so are on Afrezza. The biggest reason is because doctors believe patients need a PFT, that means pulmonary function test. The Sanofi rep does not go in very often and quite frankly does not care. This is the kind of thing that will be fixed next month and be pushing numbers up.

Patients don't need a full-blown PFT, but they do require a FEV test. The physician is under no obligation to follow FDA mandated prescribing directions, but if a physician failed to do the test and a patient sued that would be a slam-dunk malpractice case. Why would a physician not do at least the FEV test?

It was the rep that told them to do a pulmonary function test. Spirometry is all that is needed. This is what frustrates me.

I am working very hard at educating them. I have 30 plus years experience in the medical field and hundreds of connections with administrators and Dr. I may only have been in this for a few months but I'm all in. But there is a process that you must follow to educate people. I cannot just walk into a center and tell them what to do or how to do it without literature and resources. You need data to educate people.

They need case studies to show what needs to be done and why they should change how they practice. Many doctors will practice legal medicine because of their fear of lawsuits. There is a paradigm of thinking that we must change. I believe this is what Matt will do with this company after April 5th. It is just so amazing House Sanofi has sabotaged this company.

Yes... my dad had to do the full pulmonary function test on top of the spiro before the docs would prescribe Afrezza... I was quite frustrated and wondered why this happened since I know that all that is required is a spiro, and now you have answered my question. So many things have been mishandled .. Its almost like someone wants Afrezza to fail .. putting up so many obstacles..

Sanofi wants to deter doctors from using the medication. What state do you live in?

That was our experience. Docs follow a standard of care.. and most will not sway from it without case studies etc. That is why the label change is so important. Afrezza is NOT the same thing as injectable... Docs don't understand it and they don't want to change. They push patients through their office fast now days... they don't want to prescribe something they clearly don't understand and is going to take them more time as well as for legal reasons. The only reason my dad was ever on it was because of me and we pushed hard. In the end his insurance removed it from the formulary, my guess is due to the cost. How could Sanofi charge a premium price for something docs and patients perceive as being noninferior. and don't understand? Why spend the extra money and time? Afrezza must establish itself as being superior.
