Thought this deserves it's own discussion thread as it hasn't been posted before. The Mannkind Nasal Inhaler FDA registration page has been updated with the following: Afrezza; Commercial Inhaler, Gen2; AVP-825 Nose piece disposable inhaler So what is AVP-825? AVP-825,will also have a unique delivery mechanism. The mechanism is akin to traditional nasal inhalants, but the delivery actually uses the patient’s own breath to blow the medication up the nose. By using the patient’s breath, Palekar said, more medicine will actually get to where it’s supposed to go rather than ending up in the patient’s throat. “By using the body’s properties, it will cause the throat to close when blown and deliver more drug to the nasal cavity than traditional nasal sprays,” Palekar said. A company called Avanir is using this unique delivery method they created for an approved Acute Treatment of Migraine in Adults. In their drug pipeline is a method for treating Alzheimers agitation through nasal inhalation. SO - what then is Mannkind doing with it? For those who have seen some of my previous posts i think you know where i am going with this. For those who didn't you can google SNIFF Study or ACT Study for Alzheimers and Dementia Patients. I think inhalation (orally) is superior to nasally.
I may be biased but snorting a drug sounds extremely unpleasant; patient compliance would be a big issue.
If you think using Afrezza when having a cold would be difficult, imagine nasally.
