All, my S.O. mentioned Afrezza to a diabetic girlfriend of hers this morning at breakfast. She was very interested and will be seeing her endo this Friday. She refused to take Metformin and her A1C is hovering around 10 and she knows that's not good. I explained Afrezza to her (as best I could) and told her I'd email her more info so she could read up on it prior to seeing her endo.
I seem to remember a thread on the board loaded with good links and info.
If someone could find that and add the link here I'd really appreciate it. I've looked around some and haven't stumbled over it.
I told her that she may experience one of two things at her endo appt. 1) The endo has never heard of Afrezza and 2) Would be hesitant to prescribe it United Healthcare is her insurance provider - I also mentioned she may have insurance issues as well.
She said her endo is pretty reasonable and will definitely inquire about Afrezza. We are both in Al's hometown of Portland, OR - So should be interesting to see if her endo has heard about it.....
Thanks in advance esteemed PB members.

Would it be a good idea to pin such thread or threads to the top? Maybe conference call transcripts too.

This is my go to whenever I talk about Afrezza unless someone is 100% interested already. It's short, sweet, to the point, and compelling. youtu.be/GoPpCWWyh-8

Slug, my guess is she'll get false roadblocks from her doctor. Most likely her doctor is uneducated and misinformed about afrezza. BP pays big bucks to promote their products and persuade doctors. Her doctor will probably save face and say she'll prescribe but too many roadblocks will lead her to not try it. If your friend is persistent and educated on false objections ahead of time she might have a fighting chance. Here is my list of roadblocks she needs to be prepared for... Insurance does not cover so pay out of pocket. truth...mnkd cares and several discount cards makes this a non issue. Pulmonary issues could still be a problem. Truth...not one case of pulmonary problems (over 10,000 pts) and pulmonary tests ongoing. Exubera failed and afrezza is the same. Truth...afrezza and exubera are both inhalable insulins but very different insulins. Spirometry test requires several appts and delay getting your insulin. Truth...test is extremely easy to perform and endo should have one in office. Dosing is same as Humalog. Doc won't understand dosing so hesitate to prescribe. Truth...afrezza and humalog are not 1 for 1. Have pt go to afrezzajustbreathe to understand more.
Have these points ready for her to discuss. Pt must have strong conviction to pull thru docs roadblocks. Hope this helps...
