He was 1 mile from AMZN HQ. I had thought he was there maybe for RLS but this might also make some sense seeing as OneDrop has a pre-existing relationship with AMZN. Just speculating. These are the kinds of clues that can lead to big things. I realize that it's speculation, but it's educated speculation to me. Thanks for posting.

The above is an excerpt from an interesting thread regarding the role/possibility of tech companies as disruptors in the health care industry. In its way, Afrezza is also playing the role of a disruptor in the prandial insulin space in that it presents a new paradigm of treatment that ultimately might make PWD healthier and happier. (Al Mann's goal in most of his endeavors). Next, take a look at this article from the New York Times titled A Whistle-Blower Tells of Health Insurers Bilking Medicare. Here you see an illustration of what we are up against when it comes to the insurance companies and the generally congealed nature of the health care industry. You see how much money there is to be made from keeping people sick, which is sick. This is a quote from the NYT article: Diabetes, for example, can raise risk scores by varying amounts, depending on a patient’s complications. So UnitedHealth gave people with diabetes intensive scrutiny, to see if they had any other conditions that the diabetes might have caused.
As Mr. Poehling’s lawyer, Mary Inman, described it, the government would pay UnitedHealth $9,580 a year for enrolling a 76-year-old woman with diabetes and kidney failure, for instance, but if the company claimed that her diabetes had actually caused her kidney failure, the payment rose to $12,902 — an additional $3,322. Ms. Inman is with the law firm of Constantine Cannon in San Francisco.
Mr. Poehling said the data-mining projects that he had monitored could raise the government’s payments to UnitedHealth by nearly $3,000 per new diagnosis found. The company, he said, did not bother looking for conditions like high blood pressure, which, though dangerous, do not raise risk scores.
========== Perhaps rather than fighting from within the system, MNKD will ally/partner itself with outside disruptors as represented by some of the tech companies looking to enter the space. Partnering with OneDrop seems to have been a good first step in that direction and Mike's comments regarding Uber also point towards that way of thinking. The latest release from VDEX also points in that direction, as does their non-conventional partnership with Dash and Mattocks. It reminds me of Seth Godin's Idea Progression Cash remains the problem of the day, but if they can manage their way through it, I feel confident that they are on to something really new and interesting.

Sorry I missed it what was the latest release from Vdex ? On Facebook: Vdex Diabetes added 4 new photos. 27 mins · We are pleased to announce the opening of our new dedicated facility in Canoga Park where previously we had an office share arrangement. With this new medical facility we will be able to deliver a higher standard of care, and better help patients manage their diabetes. Our experience to date has shown us the need for a new and better approach. Currently, the management of diabetes is based on outdated protocols, resulting in less-than-ideal outcomes. In addition, doctors' facilities simply are not conducive to an effective patient experience with respect to diabetes. Now, with Vdex, patients will have the most up-to-date treatment protocols together with an office experience built around the idea of producing demonstrably better control of blood sugar. Through the protocols we've established and implemented with our initial group of patients, we've been able to safely lower HBa1c to levels that were previously unattainable. In some cases, we've seen patients reach HbA1c levels that are physiologically non-diabetic, with no increased risk of hypoglycemia. In fact, we've seen hypoglycemic risk fall at the same time as HbA1c is brought down, something most physicians would say is impossible. We have made extensive use of a new medication, Afrezza, and our conclusion is that we can change the diabetes landscape forever through the use of this medication. We are so confident in this medication, that we believe it really should be the first medication for the treatment of diabetes, assuming the patient meets the necessary criteria. We invite you to our June 1st grand opening event where we will be giving away a 2 week continuous monitoring trial (normal value, more than$500) to three lucky winners. All you have to do is RSVP using the link below with your Name, Email address and Phone number. By existing relationship you mean that Amazon lists One Drop on their web site along with sun loungers, dog chew toys, and electric drills. Being on Amazon is simply a case of paying Amazon a margin to add you and anyone can do it. There is no investment by Amazon in this (any more than there is in sun loungers, dog chew toys,...) This is the type of thing I was referring to when I mentioned a preexisting relationship. The tweet suggests a real dialogue between the companies. This is really impressive.

Actually, the API to tie into Amazon Echo is something that is publicly available... i.e. it's just as easy (or easier) to do that as developing an app for iPhone or Android. You'll notice there were really only 3 commands that were given to Alexa... First two: "Ask" and "Tell" with the addition that the commands were to go to Onedrop app. In these cases it's basically like a database transaction. Put some data in or get some data out. Alexa has the natural language capability to match the spoken words to the data structures Onedrop has registered with the API. The final command is request for "flash briefing" which simply goes to all apps that the user has linked into Echo and provides whatever info each app wishes to consider a daily flash briefing. Natural language recognition is certainly impressive. Has come a long way since I dabbled in it as a summer intern while in grad school. I get the feeling that this Onedrop guy is a master of promotion so he might well be intending for the tweet to suggest something more than simply having used the available API to put an Echo interface onto their software platform. If Onedrop is smart they will do the same for Google Home device as it is being rapidly improved and gaining market share.

This is the type of thing I was referring to when I mentioned a preexisting relationship. The tweet suggests a real dialogue between the companies. This is really impressive. It's nice to see, but there are over 12,000 skills like that for Alexa. Amazon is making it extremely easy both with tools and resources to produce a skill. I would expect to produce a skill like the OneDrop skill in around an hour. It is basically a baby lambda function that interfaces to the AWS Alexa Voice service and either puts or fetches a result. All the work is done by the toolkit. So technically it's trivial. From a publicity angle it's good value because for maybe an hour of work it promotes the idea that Amazon and OneDrop is close whereas the reality is that OneDrop is just one of 12,000+ Alexa skills. Don't mistake it for Amazon involvement though - think of it like a selfie with a celebrity.

Age/ what are you missing or should I say ! Trying to miss .it is about the sales derived from this technology... onedrop : AFREZZA combo . Once a person can say "Alexa, I think I want to try Afrezza, please locate a doctor willing to prescribe via a phone consult and then get me prior authorization with my insurance, and Prime over the box... I'll pay for next day shipping to get it tomorrow" then it will be technology interesting for sales. I think what Aged and I were both trying to point out is that OneDrop probably doesn't have any special backing from Amazon... and (my belief) quite frankly even if they did, what is holding Afrezza back is doctors and insurance, not the distribution chain.

My 92-year-old father had a spirometer test last week. I sat and watched it. It was in a pulmonologist doctors office. It took all of about five minutes. Handheld device. Had Bluetooth connection to her laptop. So this spirometer should not be an issue for anybody it was such a simple fast test

Ck/ the spirometry test seems like the type of procedure that can be done at the likes of a RITE AID ! For a good percentage of the general population ... is it feasible to think so ?
