The Corporate Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and plans, develops, and implements financial and accounting systems, controls, and standards for the entire company. This person will ensure timely production of financial and statistical reports for senior management use and will provide leadership and direction to the accounting department.
Additionally, the Controller will establish and maintain finance and accounting systems in accordance with accepted professional standards in order to maintain compliance with policies and procedures and adherence to applicable laws and regulations, including US GAAP, the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission, NASDAQ, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
Key Responsibilities & Result Areas
Provide timely and accurate monthly financial statements for internal customers; quarterly and annual financial reporting to the SEC and external customers
Lead technical accounting research and activities and ensure company financial statements are recorded in accordance with US GAAP; review impact and appropriate accounting for proposed transactions including financings, license agreements, research agreements, restructurings, and M&A
Work closely with Alliance Management to ensure alliances are accounted for appropriately
Lead company activities to ensure compliance with SEC and Sarbanes Oxley rules and regulations.
Coordinate and manage the external audit and annual tax preparation process as well as present findings to the Audit Committee on a quarterly basis
Ensure compliance with all tax reporting requirements including income tax, sales tax, and employment taxes
Effectively use financial information systems to better support business decisions
Lead Transactional Services
Process accounts payable in a timely and accurate manner and manage DPO to target
Process accounts receivable in a timely and accurate manner and manage DSO to target
Process a bi-weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees
Lead process improvement activities in the Transactional Services and financial reporting areas
Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to continually develop department employees in a collaborative and supportive manner
